Pros

  • Serves authentic Indian dishes
  • Operational every day

Cons

  • Instances of inattentive staff members

Indique is a culinary fusion of ‘Indian’ and ‘unique’. We’re glad to see that their name isn’t just a clever wordplay of their name, as they present a contemporary spin on traditional curries.

When it comes to the food they serve, we were not certainly not disappointed with the excellent learned quality. In fact, the consensus among customers we spoke with is that they deliver a reliable standard across their diverse menu.

We also noticed that biryani and chicken tikka received the most number of glowing recommendations from their regulars, and we’re glad to note that these dishes didn’t fall short!

We’re also happy to share that Indique gets it right when it comes to accessibility. Aside from being open every day, their commitment extends into the late hours of the night.

It’s also worth noting that Indique has standard prices – with a meal typically costing between £30 and £40. We believe that this price range places them at a reasonable point for those looking for a balance between quality and affordability.

Customer service, however, is where opinions diverge. While some patrons praise the attentive and welcoming staff, we received dismal reviews from customers over encounters with inattentive members that affect the overall quality of the dining experience.

Despite this mixed feedback, we still believe that the overall quality of Indique’s dishes and its accessibility make it a worthwhile dining destination.

Pros

  • Converts to a bar in the afternoon
  • Wide selection of small plates and beverages
  • Accessible operating hours

Cons

  • Reports of rude staff

Volta caught our attention for their unique concept as a morning restaurant that seamlessly transforms into a vibrant bar in the afternoon.

When it comes to the gastronomic offerings, we’re glad to report that Volta doesn’t disappoint. We love how their menu boasts an array of small plates inspired by international travels, complemented by weekly rotating specials.

Furthermore, the diverse selection of wines, cocktails, and craft beers adds an exciting touch in our books!

As for their rates, many patrons we surveyed are happy with their affordability, with their typical meal ranging between £20 and £30 only.

Sadly, we noted that the customer service here presents a mixed bag of experiences. On the one hand, regulars often praise how the lively and accommodating staff contributes to the overall positive atmosphere.

On the other hand, we’re a bit iffy to find that some patrons have encountered rude staff members that dampen an otherwise positive dining experience.

On a brighter note, Volta’s operating hours add another layer to their appeal. Since they’re open everyday and operational until late, we like that they can cater to night owls looking to unwind with a drink and dine.

With this, we believe Volta is a solid option in Burton Road for diners looking for good but affordable late-night food and drinks.

Pros

  • Hosts social events
  • Has attentive customer service
  • Offers an affordable selection

Cons

  • Limited food selection
  • Confusing operating hours

Santé stands out in West Didsbury as a bustling social hub, hosting a variety of events such as writing workshops and singles nights. For us, this unique feature makes it an ideal spot for those seeking a social atmosphere while enjoying their dining experience.

We believe that they also hit the mark when it comes to being budget-friendly. For instance, we appreciate that they’re offering a 3 for £15 menu – making them more affordable compared to other restaurants in the area.

Furthermore, we noted that their customer service here, and this aspect made our dining experience better. Unsurprisingly, we received many stellar reviews highlighting their polite and attentive staff members!

When it comes to their culinary offerings, we commend them for offering a selection of small plates that consistently please regulars with the quality of their food. Our favourites are the falafel, croquetes, and house frites.

We do think it’s worth mentioning that the menu has fewer food selections when compared to other establishments in the area.

Furthermore, their varying operating hours might be a bit confusing for guests. They’re operational everyday, though, so we believe that a simple solution lies in calling ahead before heading over to avoid unwanted surprises.

Pros

  • Has vegan and halal options
  • Affordable options
  • Operational everyday

Cons

  • Occasional slow customer service

Wanago is a haven for Asian food enthusiasts, from East Asian fare like sushi and K-BBQ to Southeast Asian classics, like adobo and pad Thai.

We believe that Wanago’s variety of options makes it an ideal place for those who want to indulge in specialties from this region without travelling out of Manchester.

Upon diving into their gastronomic offerings, we were delighted with a broad array of dishes that included both halal and vegan options. We also give them props for nothing possible allergens on all of their menu items.

Dishes such as the Bang Bang Butterfly Prawn and Chicken Karaage Ramen received many positive remarks from the regulars. The best part for us is being able to wash all these deliciousness down with mojitos.

Another aspect we appreciate is their daily operations. Plus, they’re open until late at night — appealing to those who want to eat beyond the usual dining hours.

Furthermore, we love how Wanago’s prices stand out, giving us the most affordable options, as its meals average between £10 and £20.

Unfortunately, we must note a drawback when it comes to customer service as the place tends to get packed, especially during the weekends. Sadly, we learned that this leads to occasional delays in service.

Despite this challenge, we highly recommend them for those who crave affordable and unique dishes, especially for those who have the luxury of time to spare.

Pros

  • Authentic Italian dishes
  • Accommodating customer service

Cons

  • Limited selection
  • Closed on Sundays
  • Pricier options

Azzurro Ristorante is a go-to place for diners in West Didsbury who are craving for authentic Italian dishes. Impressively, they’ve been around for 17 years!

As for their food, we’re happy with the availability of many Italian staples, such as bruschetta pomodoro, mozzarella al forno, and pane fresco. Moreover, we’re delighted at how the quality and consistency of their dishes have patrons singing praises—and we’ll gladly join the chorus!

Our favourite is the Bistecca Gabrielle, a sirloin steak that was perfectly charred to our liking. But what we loved was its sauce that had a strong balsamic flavour and a hint of caramelised onions.

On the downside, we noted some complaints regarding the limited selection as they only have less than 20 dishes on their menu. We think that this can be an issue if you’re dining with a big group that may have various preferences.

However, it’s worth noting that they have specials that change regularly, depending on what’s available in the market. Customers can see what’s available by taking a peek at Azzuro’s blackboard.

Another aspect we’re pretty sad about is that Azzuro only opens their doors on Friday and Saturday evenings, leaving diners with limited options. Unfortunately, their short operating hours sometimes cause issues in availability and long waiting times for seating.

Finally, while they lean towards the higher end with prices ranging between £40 and £50, we firmly believe that the expense is justified by the combination of a visually appealing interior and top-notch food quality.

Pros

  • Offers a wide selection of affordable dishes and drinks
  • Has attentive staff members

Cons

  • Requires reservations at least one day in advance

The George Charles & Unagi is named after a man who opened an exotic fruit shop in the building during the Victorian Era.

We love their appeal as they were able to preserve some elements from this era such as the ten different styles of Victorian cornicing on their feature wall. With this, we’re not surprised that many people we surveyed were blown away by their lovely interiors!

As for their offerings, we’re glad to see that The George Charles & Unagi also stands out, and we love their diverse menu that extends across lunch, brunch, and dinner. A crowd favourite is George’s Full English and upon trying it out, we agree with the general consensus!

We also like that The George Charles & Unagialso impresses with a commendable selection of drinks — with a special nod to their gin offerings.

What made us happy, though, is that we were able to enjoy this experience at relatively affordable prices! An average meal here costs between £20 and £30 – which is affordable when compared to other restaurants in the area.

On top of that, The George Charles & Unag is open everyday. We’re glad that they’re already open in time for lunch and remain available until nearly midnight at times.

However, we must mention that The George Charles & Unagi requires bookings at least a day in advance. So, this spot is definitely not for those who like to do things on whim.

Pros

  • Has an affordable selection
  • Serves authentic Middle Eastern dishes
  • Has helpful staff members

Cons

  • Closed during the mornings

Zena Restaurant is a charming family-owned establishment that welcomes diners with a cosy ambience. According to our research, they’re a popular option for guests who want to celebrate special occasions, thanks to the intimate setup of their interiors.

Furthermore, we learned that Zena’s menu showcases a luscious array of Middle Eastern selections, creating a flavourful journey for patrons. Some dishes we adore here are the Hummus, Hummus Beiruti, Mutable, and Babaghanouj.

We also love that they have a detailed explanation for every dish on their menu. This is very useful for customers who may not be well-versed with Middle Eastern cuisine.

Plus, we commend their helpful staff members who. For instance, one staff member even patiently explained the best food pairings to us, ensuring that the newbies in our group will have the best experience.

Another notable thing about Zena Restaurant is its affordable offerings that’ll only set diners back  £10 to £20 on average. But while they’re open everyday, we’re a bit let down that the restaurant is closed in the morning.

On a happier note, we love that they have an in-house delivery option for those who wish to dine in the comfort of their own home—saving patrons costly delivery fees from third-party providers!

Pros

  • Has polite staff members
  • Reasonably priced menu

Cons

  • Has mixed reviews when it comes to their food
  • Closed during the morning

Namaste Nepal is a family-run restaurant established in 2005. We noted that they’re most loved by locals for providing a relaxing environment where patrons can dine and bond.

Upon checking their menu, we found that Namaste Nepal takes their customers on a journey through Nepali and Indian cuisine. Sadly, we got mixed reviews as some customers expressed dissatisfaction with the authenticity of the dishes.

Nonetheless, we still found their offerings delicious. Some of their bestsellers include seafood curry, lamb chhoila, chicken karahi, and mango lassi.

Also, from our experience, we were thoroughly impressed by their quick serving time even during peak hours. We’re also glad to find that many regulars we spoke with constantly praised Namaste Nepal’s friendly and attentive staff.

We also think it’s worth highlighting that they’re open daily, making them a reliable choice for diners. And while they only open their doors at 5:00 PM, we’re glad to find that Namaste Nepal closes at midnight, and even at 1:00 AM on Fridays and Satrudays.

Finally, we give Namaste Nepal plus points for their reasonable prices, with meals averaging between £20 and £30. We love how this value for money is heightened by their generous servings!

Pros

  • Has branches across the globe
  • Award-winning dish selections
  • Helpful staff

Cons

  • Closed during the mornings
  • More expensive compared to other restaurants

Founded in 1986, The Great Kathmandu has become a global sensation. Their fame stretches from Australia to America, but they are especially well-loved in Manchester.

What impressed us further, though, is that they proudly hold the title of the coveted The Observer Readers’ Best Indian Restaurant in the UK award.

This award is a plus in our books as it reflects excellence of their food and services. In fact, many patrons we surveyed sang praises about The Great Kathmandu’s extensive selection and consistent food quality.

Regulars suggest trying the Kathmandu mixed starter, Kathmandu mixed shashlik, and Tandoori mixed. They also have vegetarian offerings such as aloo dum, aloo channa, and sag dal.

While they’re part of a big chain, we like how The Great Kathmandu maintains a standard of reliability with helpful staff members. It’s a plus in our books that they’re reliable whenever we seek their insights on food pairings to further enhance our experience.

We also give them plus points for their daily operations — providing a consistent and accessible dining option throughout the week. Just keep in mind that they are open from afternoon to late evenings only.

Another issue we noted is that their pricing leans towards the higher end, averaging between £30 and £40 per meal. However, when one considers their impressive menu and customer service, we believe that they’re definitely worth the splurge.

Pros

  • Wide selection of dishes
  • Reasonably-priced meals

Cons

  • Has issues over slow serving time
  • Varying operating hours

Folk, an independent neighbourhood bar and kitchen, is a local gem loved particularly for their impressive vegetarian selection such as Folk veggie fry up and smashed avocado.

We think it’s notable that they cater to diverse palates with a wide selection of dishes. Our surveys show that patrons highly recommend signature dishes like their steak and eggs, Folk fry up, and eggs Florentine.

We also give them plus points for their inclusivity which extends to families, given their dedicated kids’ menu.

For those looking to quench their thirst or have a laid back drink, we’re happy to report that their beverage menu is expansive. Patrons can have their pick from a diverse range of options, from coffee to beers, cocktails, and wine.

We like that they can be accessible to patrons regularly since they’re operational every day. However, the varying operating hours may pose a challenge and can potentially confuse those planning a visit.

We must also mention that a group of nine or more requires an advanced booking.

As for their customer service, we noted that it’s a mixed bag. While some patrons are pleased with the polite crew, we’re concerned as others express concerns about slow serving times.

Nonetheless, we’re glad to find that Folk’s pricing strikes a reasonable balance, averaging between £20 and £30. For us, this makes them an accessible choice for those looking for a satisfying meal without breaking the bank.
