If you’re looking to sell women’s clothes, bags, and shoes, prelovedMCR might be a decent choice. Their wide range of secondhand items includes various brands and labels, both independent and designer.

We also appreciate how conveniently their commissions were set up, with the original owner getting 50% of the profits from sales. There’s even an option for the original owner to use their half as store credit.

Items are up for sale for eight weeks at most, with an option for price reduction if they’re still unsold by that point. But even with the price reduction, the original owner can still expect to receive 50% of profits—a huge plus!

Another aspect we like? The items will be returned to the original owner if they still haven’t been sold after the additional four weeks.

But all that being said, there are some things that we feel they can improve on. For instance, their staff can be unresponsive and unavailable at times, and previous customers have expressed frustration at this.

Also, they also only accept commissions via appointments, so you just can’t walk in and do a trade-in. Overall, though, it’s a good consignment store, save for those two inconveniences.

Pros

  • Good pricing
  • 50-50 profit split
  • Store credit offered
  • Accepts numerous brands
  • Convenient commissions
  • Price reduction available

Cons

  • Appointment-only basis
  • Lacks responsiveness

Worth a look

“I [followed] on insta and saw a cute little denim skirt and T-shirt, and they put [it] aside for me . I don’t live locally so made a trip down and bought a few other things too. Everytime I go in there is always something really nice . They don’t stock rubbish , just selected pieces that are relevant and not overpriced. Definitely worth a look. 👏☺️”

One thing we liked about Cash Generator Longsight was how easy the entire process was. Past customers have said that they were able to walk in with their item and walk out with some cash all on the same day.

They also accept a wide range of products and items, whether it’s old gadgets or jewellery. If you have an old gaming console or an old watch that you want to dispose of, Cash Generator can assess and resell it for you.

As for their item valuations, previous customers have said that they almost always give good and fair valuations after assessing items. They can even conveniently do so online, such as through email.

However, we’re a bit wary about the lack of assurance policies, as no rule or system in place that allows the original owner to reclaim their items if they change their minds.

We also felt that they could do better when it comes to their conduct. While some staff are friendly, they tend to be unprofessional. Some customers have complained about staff being rude and inexperienced, resulting in some less-than-ideal exchanges.

Pros

  • Fair pricing
  • Accepts numerous products
  • Quick and easy process
  • Online commissions available

Cons

  • Could improve professionalism
  • No assurance policies

Beg, Steal & Borrow is for those who want their secondhand trade-offs to be over, done, and gone as quickly as possible. That’s because their trading process is smooth and straightforward.

You simply send them a picture of your clothes and discuss the price via online direct messaging (DM), then drop the clothes off at their store. Having an online option for commissions makes trading with them convenient!

Another thing we liked about their services was the small bonus you’d get for each trade-off. The original owner of the clothes can get some store credits or even a gift card/voucher for each resale, and many past customers we’ve spoken with loved this.

However, we were a bit disappointed to learn that they only resell clothes, so things like bags or gadgets can’t be traded in.

We’re also iffy about the lack of initial information on a set profit split or resale percentage for customers. Their website and social media don’t list a specific one or a way in which it’s estimated, so it’s on a purely case-by-case basis.

Pros

  • Store credits offered
  • Quick and easy process
  • Gift cards/vouchers available
  • Online commissions available

Cons

  • Accepts only clothes
  • No set profit splits

Bare Necessities accepts and resells numerous vintage and Y2K brands, and from what we’ve gathered from our surveys, they do so at good prices, too! They also only resell clothes, so keep that in mind if you’re thinking of trading with them.

We also appreciate the helpful staff, since they helped us with estimating the value of our clothes, even giving us advice on reselling them. Past customers have also spoken positively about the staff’s conduct and helpfulness.

We just wish there were assurance policies in place for commissions. There’s no guarantee that the clothes can be returned without any damage if the original owner changes their mind.

Additionally, they don’t offer a percentage of the profits in cash, instead doing so through store credit—another letdown!

On the bright side, their process is seamless. It’s easy to understand and can be done in under an hour. Customers just need to bring in the clothes they want to part with, and the store will resell them, with the original owner getting 40% back in credit.

Pros

  • Accepts numerous brands
  • Quick and easy process
  • Helpful staff
  • Store credit available

Cons

  • No assurance policies
  • No cash profits
  • Accepts only clothes
