The 5 Best Farm Shops in Manchester for Fresh and Local Produce
Do you spend minutes on end browsing the supermarket for fresh veggies and wonder why most of them don’t look fresh? This is because of the long distance that these products travel from source to shop.
Well, this is where farm shops come in! Their goods are as fresh as can be as they’re literally located on or near farms, and this is actually what I love about shopping in farm shops.
Moreover, I also feel good about myself because I’m supporting local farmers and producers, not billion-dollar corporations.
Luckily, in Manchester, we have plenty of options when it comes to farm shops that offer a wide range of fresh produce, dairy products, and meats, and more! We reviewed the best ones in the city so you’ll know your next eco-conscious shopping stop, so read on!

Don’t let the name fool you. There is nothing little about this farm shop’s offerings—especially when it comes to their meats! The steaks and pork chops are great, but their sausages are our top pick.
But while the meats are obviously the stars in this shop, their wide selection of fruits and vegetables shouldn’t be missed either. From potatoes and parsnips to pears and honeydew melons that are as fresh as they come.
It’s also worth noting that this farm shop is family-owned and the owners are among the most lovely and accommodating people you’ll ever meet.
They’re also passionate about sustainable farming, employing techniques like Crop Rotation, Direct Drilling and Mob Grazing. You’ll be confident that you’re supporting a good cause when you shop here.
Lastly, you can take a look at their beautiful sunflower meadow before you take home your rib eye steaks and pork bellies. It was such a sight to see that it made us want to go back, even though it’s a bit out of our way as it’s a little far from major urban areas.

As the Lymefield Garden Centre’s name suggests, it’s not just a farm shop but also a garden centre and a tea room, and they even have a restaurant! A beautiful green field surrounds the area and the shop has a charming rustic charm.
We came here early so we could start the day sampling their breakfast offerings. Their signature Lymefield Breakfast is a must-order, with its perfectly toasted bread, runny eggs, and delightful sausages and black pudding – absolutely delicious!
If you have a furry friend, you’ll also be happy to know that they even have a dog’s menu, with options like different kinds of sausages and even ice cream.
As for the farm shop, it’s noteworthy that their products are so fresh, with so many high-quality local delicacies on offer. It’s no surprise, though, because they told us that locality and freshness are their priorities. Plus, their meat products are also fully-traceable to their suppliers!
We’re just iffy about the high prices of their products. After all, we love visiting farm shops for their affordability.
3. Milk Maids

If you’re looking for fresh produce and also happen to have a sweet tooth, go to Milk Maids! Don’t miss out on their delectable handcrafted ice cream that’s made on the farm (Honeycomb is our favourite flavour, by the way).
Besides the ice cream, their specialty is obviously their milk offerings, as Milk Maids is an award-winning dairy farmer. Their milk is available in both raw and pasteurized forms, sourced directly from their own herd.
They also offer other farm shop staples such as eggs, potatoes, honey, and preserves. There’s also the occasional turkey. But, unfortunately, that’s all really what you can find in Milk Maids, so don’t expect them to replace your supermarket.
For needs like fruits, vegetables, pork, beef, and chicken, it’s best that you head to other bigger farm shops.
On the upside, the establishment’s atmosphere is pretty cosy. It looks modern and it’s well-lit, though the crowd can pile up sometimes as the shop is not that spacious.

If you’re a parent who normally takes your kid on your quest to restock the fridge and cupboard, then you’re going to like Nixon’s Farm Shop. They’ve got a nice little play area that kids will love.
Nixon’s Farm Shop has a varied selection of premium meat cuts sourced from trusted local farms. We love how they’re also well-stocked with seasonal fruits and vegetables, dairy products, and artisanal goods.
They also have a team room where we tried their beef burgers and had a sip of their fresh ground coffee for a true farm-to-table experience.
Unfortunately, not all is well for this family-friendly farm shop. They were pretty understaffed the last time we went there, which made the service rather slow.
And the meats, while good, are a little on the expensive side. Access to the kids’ play area is also a bit pricey at £9.
5. Falshaw’s Farm Shop

Falshaw’s Farm Shop has a rustic charm to it, and it’s great for kids! You can see animals frolicking in the field and they’ve got a simple yet spacious play area with little tractor things that kids can ride.
They’ve also got fantastic ice cream and their cafe also offers homemade treats like sandwiches that are great with their hot coffee. Their serving is a bit on the small side, though, despite being a little pricey.
Their on-site butcher, however, is the star that steals the show, making delicious sausages and burgers from quality beef and lamb that are bred in their farm. They’ve also got other farm shop staples like milk, cheese, eggs, jams, and seasonal fruits and veggies.
Their staff also deserves some recognition. They’re accommodating, friendly, and always willing to chat about their products and give recommendations.
