What we liked most about PJ Polishers is their wide range of restoration services. They’re able to deal with markings from both heat and dampness, and they can work with all sorts of wooden surfaces too.

We also appreciate the effort put into making their service as convenient as possible; they’re helpful when responding to questions and can adapt to the customer’s needs.

Their delivery services are quick and free too, as they even do same-day returns!

Homeowners on a budget might also be pleased to know that their rates are affordable. And even with the budget-friendly rates, the quality of their restoration work isn’t sacrificed!

We’re just a tad disappointed that their services are more suited for minor restorations, so a joint out of place or anything less drastic can’t be fixed. Additionally, they’re unavailable on the weekends, so it’s best to keep that in mind when contacting them.

Pros

  • Numerous services
  • Quick turnaround time
  • Free pickup and delivery
  • Budget friendly
  • Flexible
  • Helpful and responsive staff

Cons

  • Unavailable during weekends
  • Minor restorations

Fantastic and excellent service

“Excellent! We had some bad water stains on our table, and Paul managed to completely get rid of them – [table] looks brand new! He is a really nice guy and got it done in a week. Fantastic service.”

Ben Parslew, Google Review

Mutually convenient and quality work

“I contacted Paul after a white heat mark appeared on my dining room table after a hot item was left on it and I made an attempt to sort it out myself, big mistake.  After I sent him some photographs he provided me with a quote and we arranged a mutually convenient time for it to be collected.  The turnaround was very quick and the table was returned and looked brand new. I would not hesitate to recommend the quality of Paul’s work he is a true craftsman.”

Assured Fine Furniture stands out with its expertise and skill in working with pieces of various ages and qualities. They’ve carefully worked with pieces that have been around for a long time—even 200-year-old ones!

Another thing we really appreciated about Assured Fine Furniture is how they can fix a wide variety of furniture. They even hand-craft new wooden parts to replace broken ones, so that’s another plus for us.

Our surveys have also shown them to be considerate and responsive towards customers’ needs. Many have talked about how they handled family heirlooms with care, plus they were prompt with their deliveries and responses to inquiries.

Additionally, their services are flexible enough to adjust according to their customers’ specifications. So whether you want to have a full restoration or even just a partial one, they’ll be open to listening to your request.

Unfortunately, their store’s location is out of the way and can be inconvenient to reach. Their responsiveness also slows down during peak hours, so expect to have to wait quite a bit when contacting them during that time.

Pros

  • Numerous services
  • Quick turnaround time
  • Flexible
  • Helpful and responsive staff
  • Antique/vintage friendly

Cons

  • Less than ideal location
  • Slow responses during peak hours

Prompt and excellent service

“Peter and Frances repaired badly dropped springs in my favourite Victorian library armchair. Their pick-up and drop-off was prompt, the repair undertaken to an excellent standard, and they have a very happy new customer. Many thanks.”

Restoring treasured parts

“We trusted a child’s chair, which is treasured by my partner, being a major part of his childhood, to Assured Fine Furniture.. It had not only suffered the affects of time with loose joints, missing the caning on the chair back, but had also been a victim of an attempted ‘home restoration’.We asked for it not to be overly restored, we wanted to keep the appearance of age and were happy with its imperfections, but left the rest, including the choice of upholstery on the seat to them. We have collected the chair today and it’s safe to say we are overwhelmed. The restoration is better than we could have imagined! We can’t recommend Pete and Frances enough. It’s safe to say, they will not let you down. Thank you both so much!”

For those on a budget, Katharine Fernie Furniture might be a good choice. Why? Her quotes are at reasonable prices without compromising on the quality.

Previous customers we spoke with have said that older furniture pieces have looked brand new after she’s worked on them.

We were also impressed to see that she has a wide range of available services, from simple polishing to repairing even intricate mouldings. Plus, she can even repurpose furniture and give it a new lease on life, like turning old chairs into TV stands.

Our surveys have also shown that customer service is another positive factor, mainly because of Katharine’s flexibility. She listens closely to what exactly her customers want, so she can work to adjust to them.

It was just unfortunate that her services are unavailable on weekends and on Mondays. We also noticed that her store is located in a somewhat inaccessible spot, so it can be inconvenient to make the trip there.

Pros

  • Numerous services
  • Can repurpose furniture
  • Antique/vintage friendly
  • Flexible
  • Budget friendly

Cons

  • Unavailable on weekends and Mondays

Saved and resurrected old furniture

“Kath is an amazing craftswoman who takes meticulous care over any project she’s given. I love old furniture and she has saved and resurrected so many lovely pieces for me that I think she’s a miracle-worker. She also made a beautiful bed for us out of local fallen oak a few years ago.”

Fantastic restoration job

“I found Katharine Fernie by recommendation when I needed my Ercol coffee table re finishing, it had scratches and had become a bit lack lustre. She did a fantastic job of restoring the table to its original finish! Would recommend to anyone who needs any furniture restoring.”

Reloved Upholstery and Design initially caught our eye because of their interesting reupholstery videos we found while scrolling through Instagram. Their bespoke pieces are full of character!

Digging further, we found that they have a wide variety of services—they can fix a whole lot of furniture problems! For instance, they can seamlessly repair or replace different parts that are defective or missing, and can even repurpose furniture.

Their previous customers have said that the furniture pieces looked new and improved without anything looking out of place. Plus, they hold consultations both online and in-person to keep customers updated.

The reupholstery classes that they offer alongside their restoration services are also worth noting. People who have attended these classes have said that the staff were a helpful and professional bunch.

However, you’ll need to plan carefully about when to contact them. Their business is closed on weekends, and restoration can take a whole week, even with just one piece of furniture.

  • Numerous services
  • Can repurpose furniture
  • Customer consultations
  • Sustainable Practices
  • Antique/vintage friendly

Cons

Exceeded all expectations

“It was never in any doubt who would recover my Parker Knoll chair. The transformation exceeded all expectations and the pictures speak for themselves. I really did feel like part of the Reloved family on every visit to the studio. Highly recommend to one and all.”

A star and a very safe pair of hands

“Simion is a very safe pair of hands. I gave him my Nan’ s chair which was much treasured and he gave me back a renewed and enhanced piece of furniture which I will pass on to the next generation of our family. Hes a busy man unsurprisingly, so it wasnt a speedy process …but it was well worth the wait. I absolutely love it. He has stripped it back to the frame and made it strong again . His attention to detail is second to none. I’ve had a bad back recently and I’ve been sitting in my chair for support and comfort. Thank you so much Simion you are a star💖🌟🌟🌟🌟”

Barrdale French Polisher shines for its quality work and wide range of services that encompass different types of furniture damage.

We were impressed to see that they can do both major and minor restorations on furniture, from French polishing to a complete veneer repair. It was also impressive to see their skill with restoring antique furniture—the output looks like it hasn’t aged one bit!

Another thing we love is that they’re open every day of the week. Moreover, they have a quick turnaround time that allows them to return furniture the day after they’ve finished.

And while their location is not in the city centre, it’s convenient that they offer a collection and delivery service.

On the downside, we’re iffy about their tendency for poor communication.

From what we’ve experienced, they tend to respond to inquiries after several days, and we found the initial information unclear. It was also the consensus among the people we surveyed, so we hope they can improve in that area.

Pros

  • Numerous services
  • Antique/vintage friendly
  • Quick turnaround time
  • Available everyday
  • Secure collection and delivery

Cons

  • Less than ideal location
  • Could improve communication

Good communication and amazing restoration

“I recently had a modern rosewood table restored after some heat damage. Callum from Barrdale gave excellent service and the restoration was amazing. Their communication with their customers is very good and I can see why they get such good reviews. Thanks Barrdale!”

Pleased with the services

“They have just re polished my 70 year old Ercol table and chairs, that I inherited and they look like new – so pleased with result and the service I received- would highly recommend this company and I would definitely use them again. Thank you”
