At first glance, Maximum Music Events (MME) might look like it’s only for big-ticket events: corporate functions, product launches, and posh parties. 

That might be true—they have the BBC, Hilton Hotels, and CO-OP as past clients. Yet, it’s refreshing to see a clever set of DJ packages at different price points.

Adding to our delight is the fact that MME charges per event and not by the hour. Going overtime will incur a surcharge, but we think that’s just fair.

Costs aside, MME provides one of the most complete sets of inclusions we’ve seen. A four or five-hour set already includes the DJ’s booth (and kit, of course), lighting rig, a fog machine, and wireless mics.

To top it all, MME’s DJs are professionals throughout and will work with you to create a playlist that’s tailor-fit to the event you’re hiring them for. If you can splurge, there’s also the option to pair them with a saxophone player or a percussionist.

Shaun Brady is a surprising audiovisual pro. Back in 2020, he launched a company with four subsidiaries: PROSTUDIO, a recording studio; The Groove, an entertainment agency; MCR Photobooths; and SBDJ Services, his one-man DJ service.

SBDJ specialises in weddings (his wife is actually a wedding planner), but Shaun is open to other events if his schedule allows. 

The catch is that he’s in such high demand that bookings need to be made a year or so in advance. We’d be chuffed otherwise, but now that we know how much Shaun has on his hands, we get it!

When Shaun does get behind the booth, he does a splendid job at live mixing tracks, hosting a bit to hype the crowd, and serenading people with his smooth sax skills. 

A usual set lasts four and a half hours, starting at £350. This includes Shaun’s diligent phone consults for the optimum set list, the booth, lighting, and wireless microphones.

DJ Coast2Coast (real name Nkosi, or Kose) is another on-demand DJ. Given his calibre, thanks to over 18 years of tastefully mixing tracks, the need to book him nine to 18 months in advance totally checks out.

These days, he focuses on weddings, but he’s equally game for other events. He’s quite versatile, since he actually began his career with club gigs around Manchester. 

Many of DJ Coast2Coast’s clients appreciate him the most for his endless energy and love of the work, and we felt the same way. We’re also amazed by his ability to set up on the day in just an hour (and he does this all by himself)!

This DJ’s service package is equally solid: you’ll get the DJ booth, sound system, smoke machine, advanced lighting, wireless microphones, and a customised playlist. A usual booking lasts for five hours.

Manchester DJs is an easy go-to for events, music, and entertainment with over 30 years of experience. 

The straightforward name helps a lot in making itself memorable by word-of-mouth, but the helpfulness levels go down if we talk about searching for them over the internet. That might be something the company can improve on.

That aside, the Manchester DJ roster of services stands out for its highly customised DJ booths, as well as variety for different tastes, event complexities, and budgets. This is fantastic, especially for those shopping around different providers for the best deals.

One can get the essential DJ service and choose between pre-set playlist genres, or go all out by adding video effects and live instruments to the mix. 

The pinch would come once you decide to hire them. A 50% deposit upfront to secure the deal might be a dealbreaker, since it’s way bigger than the average 20-30% other DJs for hire ask for.

Tom Stone has been an events DJ here in the northwest since 2009, and it shows. 

Between the wedding sets, birthday parties, and small-town local events he’s performed at, we and a lot of his clients felt his brilliant ability to get the quirks of his audience and set a good vibe.

His setup is ‘small but sweet’, thanks to the simple style of the DJ booth, lighting, and sound equipment. 

The booth itself reminds us a lot of a starry sky, which unexpectedly seems to always match with the event they’re in. (He has another booth style that’s more plain, too, so we guess the simplicity is intentional and actually clever).

Besides the clean booth visuals, Tom is truly a professional: safety’s properly sorted, clients fully consulted on the desired schedule and playlist, a timely setup, and an online presence (which needs a bit more polish, though).
