No one knows fish better than a fishmonger! This place is an extension of Heaton’s The Easy Fish Co., and it’s a great place to enjoy oysters if you don’t mind a lively spot to eat, both for indoor and outdoor seating.

Their menu is seasonal, so now and then, you can get something new to try out with oysters. They’ve got a great wine list and great champagne sauces too, so it’s a flavour fest here! Even better if you decide to pair your oysters with something.

So, we’d say that a trip here is well worth the price, with the great atmosphere and all the fresh food.

Pro tip:
There’s no set menu here since they always serve their latest catches (optimum freshness!). Which means that you’ll have to go here when it’s oyster season, either March to April or August to September.

Luckily, this place has good and affordable oysters! They’re even served with a lemon wedge and some dressings that are great for complementing the oyster taste. Their other seafood fare is pretty great too, making it a paradise for fish-loving foodies!

The Oystercatcher also has a very casual atmosphere, so you’ll feel comfortable within its brick walls that are lined with little nautical trinkets, all while enjoying some oysters. It’s the perfect venue for a group hang!

And while they’re mostly known for their steak and beef dishes, they definitely didn’t disappoint with their richly flavoured oysters. You’ll have the choice between natural and Vietnamese oysters, but we’re sure that no matter which type you choose, you’ll be sure to enjoy them.

Even long after you’ve finished the last course, the flavours will stay on your taste buds!

Erst

Address: 9 Murray St, Ancoats

Contact details: 0161 547 3683 (cel.), [email protected] (email)

Operating hours:

  • Tuesday-Saturday — 1 PM-11 PM
  • Closed on Sunday-Monday

Pricing: ££

Pairings: lemon, mignonette sauce, wine

Menu

This restaurant and bar tucked away in Ancoats has a relaxed setting, great for a more intimate gathering with your other oyster-loving friends. That’s because underneath the not-too-harsh lighting and seated at a table that wouldn’t look too out of place in a studio apartment, you’ll feel right at home while dining on Erst.

The oysters here are Carlingford oysters, which have a rich and distinct flavour. And since they’re served with either mignonette sauce or lemon, you’ll be able to bring out those flavours more. It’s great if you want to savour the taste with every oyster you eat!

Aside from the oh-so beloved oysters, you can also find several other seafood dishes here.

There are quite a few other shellfish dishes here, such as clam gilda and razor clams. So if you want to go on a shellfish binge, you’ll know that Erst is the place to go to!

They also have an extensive wine list, so order a bottle to elevate the experience. But what’s maybe the best part is that the menu here is seasonal, so there’s an extra freshness to nearly everything!

Pro tip:
Even with their extensive wine list, there are still some brands and types that aren’t listed on the menu! They have a separate list of cellar wines, stored and aged for that extra push to the quality, and you can request these once you’ve sat down.

Higher Ground

Media from: @highergroundmcr

Address: Faulkner House, New York St

Contact details: 0161 236 2931 (cel.), [email protected] (email)

Operating hours:

  • Wednesday-Thursday — 5 PM-11 PM
  • Friday-Saturday — 5:30 PM-12 AM
  • Closed on Sunday-Tuesday

Pricing: ££

Pairings: wine, rhubarb hot sauce

Menu

Here’s another seasonal restaurant that might be up your alley! Higher Ground serves charcoal-cooked dishes made with ingredients from local produce.

A lot of the menu items here are made to be shared between friends, so if it tickles your fancy, you can invite your mates who share your oyster-loving tastes.

When it comes to oysters, you get your pick between three kinds. So it’s a choice between the briny and bold Cumbrae, richly flavoured Carlingford, and the meaty Maldon—any of these three would be a delicious choice!

Plus, the fact that the food here is charcoal-cooked is another bonus to the dining experience! It means that the meat or fish dishes, such as lamb and cod, have a rich smoky flavour. Even their aroma alone is enough to get you in the mood to eat and enjoy the food.

Pair all that with the oyster of your choice, and you’re in for a flavourful evening!

Pro tip:
Keep yourself up-to-date regarding their menu changes via their website and socials and see if they have oysters available on the menu of the day.
