The menu gives a new light to Vietnamese and British favourites with items like the sweet and savoury Peanut Butter Chicken Fries or Pan-fried Sea Bass over rice or noodles.

Whether you see it as a clever joke or a meaningful idiom, the name “Pho Cue” definitely wins our “Best Pun” award. The long lines in this shop don’t lie about its popularity, either.

Don’t miss out on the warm goodness of the restaurant’s pho. There are a couple of styles to choose from, such as the Pho Bo Tai, which features thin strips of beef that cook perfectly as the hot broth pours over them, resulting in tender bites of meat with rice noodles.

For a more indulgent option, try the Hai Phong Special bowl, which combines beef, oxtail, chicken, and prawns in one delicious broth.

Pro tip: Make a reservation in advance or arrive before peak hours to avoid the long queues at Pho Cue.

Pho No. 1 might look like a typical mom-and-pop neighbourhood shop trying to get by in any way it can with the simplest of dishes, but don’t let that fool you. Often, these simpler spots offer the most authentic Vietnamese cuisine.

The restaurant boasts a wider variety of Vietnamese dishes than most places. You can enjoy Betel Leaf Wraps, Grilled Monkfish, or Mekong Catfish served in a clay pot, among other unique menu items here—talk about variety!

With pho, you have a choice between beef or chicken pho for a traditional experience, or for tofu if you’re vegetarian.

Pro tip: The atmosphere inside Pho No. 1 is simple and homey, striking a balance between British and Vietnamese influences. It’s a great place to enjoy a meal with friends or family.

Namii Kitchen & Cocktails is a beautifully decorated restaurant and bar, featuring a modern, neon purple and floral take on East Asian aesthetics. It offers Vietnamese cuisine in an elegant and upscale environment.

The restaurant serves three types of pho, each with a unique ingredient that elevates the dish.

Namii’s Pho Bo uses 30-day dry-aged beef, while the Pho Ga features free-range Cumbrian chicken. Even the plant-based bowl is special, using vegetables native to Asia, providing diners with an authentic taste of the region.

To cap off the night or late night, enjoy a sip of the Vietnamese Garden cocktail for a light drink with a bit of a kick.

Pro tip: Try Namii’s other crowd favourites too like the Dragon’s Breath Xa Xiu Udon Noodles. It might be quite spicy, but it’s definitely filling and delish!

Viet Guy is a no-frills restaurant known for its consistently scrumptious Vietnamese food. It excels in traditional noodle dishes, making it a go-to spot for people looking for more variety in the Viet noodle department.

Try the duck pho for a rich, comforting meal that features a not-so-usual fowl. If you’re in the mood for something spicier, the Bun Bo Hue or Bun Ca spicy noodle bowls are excellent choices.

What keeps us coming back, though, is the Fried Ice Cream. Despite being vanilla-flavoured, the addition of peanuts and coconut sauce transforms this supposedly basic dessert to a whole new level of deliciousness.

Pro tip: The Viet Guy has authentic Vietnamese beer! Simply ask your server for either the “Ha Noi” or “Sai Gon” to enjoy a true taste of Vietnam.

Ca Phe Viet (translation: “Vietnamese coffee”) is a quaint cafe and mini Asian grocer along Oldham Road. Despite its small size, it attracts sizeable crowds on weekends.

Best known for its banh mi, the traditional Vietnamese sandwich, and its strong, flavourful coffee, Ca Phe Viet also offers a variety of other delicious dishes—perfect, even for those trying Vietnamese cuisine for the first time.

We highly recommend the beef pho, which arrives in a generous serving complete with mint, lemon wedges, sliced chillies, and bean sprouts. Mix these into the already tasty broth to create a personalised flavour profile.

Pro tip: Pick up a six-pack of powdered coffee from Ca Phe Viet’s grocery shelf and enjoy one of the best cups of Vietnamese cups of joe in Manchester right at home.

With a name like “Wow Banh Mi,” it’s clear that the banh mi sandwiches are a crowd favourite here. However, don’t overlook the noodle dishes.

Besides the shop’s popular chicken pho, Wow Banh Mi offers a unique twist with the Wow Pho. This dish, which the Viet name translates to “rare beef brisket pho with beef balls,” is a meatier version of the traditional beef noodle soup and is definitely worth trying.

The restaurant also ups the ante on the menu with bubble and milk teas. The Salted Egg Yolk Cheese Tea, for example, is an intriguing take on the popular Asian drink.

Pro tip: Wow Banh Mi has a limited number of seats, so come early or at off-peak hours.

Banh Mi Co Ba is a cosy spot on Manchester’s famous Oxford Road, known for its delicious Vietnamese street food. Because of its small size and few seats, most customers opt for take out.

The biggest draw here is the value for money for the serving size. The food is tasty, with portions that are just right and easy on the pocket.

The Summer (fresh) and Spring (fried) rolls are popular for takeout, but the pho bowls are also hearty and satisfying. However, they only offer beef variations, so if you’re looking for chicken or seafood, you might need to look elsewhere.

Pro tip: You can still have a sit down meal at Banh Mi Co Ba, as some tables are outside the shop.

Oh My Pho, in Wythenshawe, brings the flavours of Vietnam to the suburbs of Manchester. Locals are very lucky—they no longer need to travel to the city centre to enjoy a delicious bowl of the house speciality, Pho!

The restaurant boasts a cosy and inviting decor, enhancing the overall dining experience. Oh My Pho offers a variety of protein options to pair with flat noodles including beef, chicken, duck, seafood, and vegan tofu, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

For those who crave a bit of spice, the menu also features bun hue, a sister dish to pho that promises to deliver a delightful, tongue-tingling heat.

Pro tip: Spending birthdays with family and friends is a blast at Oh My Pho. Celebrate your special day with a slice of Carrot Cake (with or without a candle)!

Let Auntie or Uncle Serve You Pho at Que Huong Viet

Que Huong Viet is actually neighbours with one of our previous entries on this list, Ca Phe Viet. However, the former is more prominent when seen from the street, since it’s a bigger shop than the latter.

We’re not really sure if having a dual-purpose space (grocery and restaurant) is usual for Vietnamese establishments abroad like the ones here in Manchester, but it’s still a welcome one in our books.

The restaurant serves three types of pho. There’s rare beef, cooked beef, and a special bowl that has both beef and chicken.

Pro tip: Since Que Huong Viet is clearly a very local, aunties-and-uncles-run type of shop. Cleanliness of the dining areas could use some improvement at times.

I Am Pho is a hidden gem in the basement of a building along George Street in Chinatown. It may look unassuming from the outside, but the food is truly impressive.

You can enjoy delicious pho with options like raw beef, cooked beef, chicken, or a mix of all three. For vegetarians, there’s a tasty version with tofu and mushrooms.

If you’re feeling adventurous, try the Fried Frog Legs! Some say these jumpers taste like chicken, and are flavoured with chilli and lemongrass.

Saigon and Hanoi brand beers are also available here to top off the Vietnam experience.

Pro tip: I Am Pho’s pricing is very reasonable, however, there is a minimum order requirement of at least £6 per person. Additionally, a 10% service charge will be added to the bill for groups of five or more.

Pho is a popular restaurant chain with many branches across the UK, including one in Manchester. It all started from a British couple’s trip to the streets of Vietnam back in 2005.

This shop has the longest list of pho variants we’ve seen during our research for this post. Aside from the usual tasty bowls of beef or chicken, you can also have crab, prawn, mushroom, and steak with the noodles here.

For the other dishes in Pho’s menu, we’re particularly in love with the Crispy Banana Fritters at the moment. This simple dish, especially when served with ice cream, is simply divine.

Pro tip: Pho is accessible! There’s wheelchair access and a toilet for the disabled in the restaurant for those who need it.
