Pros

  • Has arcade games
  • Affordable menu
  • Polite staff members
  • Accessible location

Cons

  • Early closing time

Are you looking to recapture the thrill of your favourite arcade games? We think that you would enjoy a nostalgic trip back in time and indulge in over 500 classic titles at Arcade Club.

We appreciate that classic games like Mortal Kombat, Tetris, and 1942 are available on site. The best part is that all the games are free to play!

But it’s not just about the games. Arcade Club offers food and drinks for as low as £1.25 only—another huge plus for affordability!

We’re also glad to find that they have a varied menu, including burgers, hotdogs, nachos, and more. During our visit, we sampled their ham & mushroom and El Diablo pizzas — and they didn’t disappoint.

Furthermore, we also appreciate their refreshing selection of beverages. From soft drinks to craft beers, wines to spirits, they’ve got their customers covered.

We took our server’s recommendation and tried the Punk IPA and Lost Lager which is a decision we certainly didn’t regret.

Speaking of service, we were impressed by the attentive and knowledgeable staff. They were polite, speedy, and well-versed in the menu.

The only downside? We’re a bit iffy that they do close a tad earlier than other bars in the area.

On the brighter side, their prime location on Cork Street makes them easily accessible via private and public transportation.

Pros

  • Relaxing setting
  • Convenient location
  • Extended operating hours
  • Affordable menu
  • Polite staff members

Cons

  • Fluctuations in food quality

The Blue Bell is an ideal place for those looking to unwind in a charming setting. Upon entering the establishment, we were immediately impressed with their inviting rustic-style interior and relaxing patio area.

Upon our arrival, we were greeted warmly by the staff whose pleasant attitude remained consistent throughout our visit.

It’s worth noting that The Blue Bell is located within an inn of the same name. With this, they are also a great option for tourists seeking accommodation while exploring the city.

On top of this, with their convenient location at Monton Grn has its own public transportation stop that makes moving around much easier.

We like how their menu won’t break the bank either, with meals averaging between £10 to £20. We tried their butter chicken curry, complete with tender chicken pieces and mint yoghurt, and it left us thoroughly satisfied.

However, we think that it’s worth noting that some long-time customers have reported fluctuations in food quality over time.

Luckily, their drink selection is a refreshing delight. We enjoyed their classic Pornstar Martini to the robust Espresso Martini.

And for those abstaining from alcohol, we give them props for offering a variety of non-alcoholic options including juices, coffee, and tea.

Lastle, night owls rejoice! An added plus for accessibility in our books is The Blue Bell’s late closing times. They’re even open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays!

Pros

  • Tranquil venue
  • Late closing times
  • Accommodating staff

Cons

  • Expensive menu

We think that The Ostrich is a great place for those who are on the hunt for a hidden gem away from the hustle and bustle. They’re nestled near Heaton Park which makes them perfect for both patrons seeking tranquillity.

Plus, we like that they’re also open until midnight on select days, which is perfect for those up for some late-night grub and a nightcap.

But for us, one standout aspect of The Ostrich is their beautiful event venues with five cosy rooms and a bar area. And let’s not forget their sprawling beer garden in the back that offers ample seating for those sunny afternoons.

We were also impressed by their diverse selection of cask, keg, lager, and bottled seasonal drinks. We opted for the Crystal Gold and Two Hoots — and it didn’t disappoint.

Sadly, we must note that they lean towards the pricier side, ranging from £20 to £30. But we believe it’s a small price to pay for the experience, especially considering their prime location and exceptional customer service.

Speaking of which, we’d like to commend our server for going above and beyond to accommodate our needs. We appreciate the gesture as one of our party members had dietary restrictions and they promptly provided alternative menu options.

Pros

  • Locally-sourced ingredients
  • Accessible location
  • Long operating hours

Cons

  • Expensive menu

From what we’ve seen, The Swan & Cemetery provides a dining experience that champions local produce. We also like that they source the fresh vegetables and cuts from nearby farms and butchers.

Another plus for us is how the dining experience here is elevated by their south-facing outside decking area. We think that it’s the perfect spot to unwind amidst the fragrance of their newly planted wildflower garden.

During our recent visit, we were treated to a premium dining experience. Although, it does come with a price tag ranging from £30 to £40 for an average meal.

On the other hand, we learned that they do offer promotions such as the enticing 2 for £10 deal or individual items priced at £6 each on certain days.

Upon digging into our orders, we think that their Sunday Roasts are a definite must-try. Some members of our team became fans of their Hunter’s Chicken and Steak and Kidney Pudding as well.

After that, we washed it all down with selections from their impressive wine list. Here, they have gems like Landings Colombard Chardonnay and Albarino Torres Pazo Das Bruxas.

And when it comes to service, we’re happy to find that this is where their staff truly shines. During a busy evening, we witnessed their efficiency firsthand when a large group arrived unexpectedly.

Despite the sudden influx of customers, we commend them as our orders were taken promptly and our meals arrived without delay.

Lastly, we like that they are conveniently located at Manchester Road, and are open from lunch until late night.

Pros

  • Live music
  • Inclusive menu
  • Charming ambiance

Cons

  • Parking is quite far
  • Reports of slow customer service

Staff Of Life is a charming family-run pub. We were impressed to learn that they have a long history since they first opened their doors in 1973—a testament to good quality!

As for those who are looking to dine and drink, we’re happy to share that they regularly host live music that ensures there’s never a dull moment.

The establishment is right along Manchester Road, making them easy to find. Although, we did find the parking a tad distant from the restaurant.

However, any inconvenience was swiftly forgotten once we sampled their recommended lamb steak – a dish that certainly lived up to our expectations.

Another thing that sets them apart for us is their commitment to catering to diverse dietary needs. We commend them for offering options for vegans and those with gluten intolerances.

Their drinks menu is equally impressive! We like that they boast a wide selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

We opted for the Hen Harrier and Bowland Brewery – both delightful choices that complemented our meals perfectly.

While our experience was marked by attentive service, it’s worth noting that some previous customers have reported slower serving times.

Nevertheless, we believe that they are still worth a visit, especially considering the affordability of their meal — typically ranging between £10 to £20.
