A Foodie’s Ultimate Guide to the 10 Best Eats in Deansgate

Ever had one of those days where you just can’t decide where to eat? You know, the kind where you’re scrolling through options like it’s the hardest decision of your life? Yeah, that was me, last Friday night on Deansgate.

The thing is, Deansgate isn’t just another street in Manchester—it’s like a culinary playground. You’ve got everything from juicy steaks to tapas that’ll make you feel like you’ve been whisked off to Spain.

So, after what felt like hours of “Where do you fancy?” and “I don’t mind, you choose,” I finally decided to just let my stomach lead the way.

So, after countless nights of “research” (aka eating my way down Deansgate), let us share a few places guaranteed to hit the spot.

If you’re into steak, Hawksmoor Manchester is the kind of place that will spoil you for all other steakhouses. Nestled right in the heart of Deansgate, it’s a spot where you know you’re getting the good stuff.

The first time we went, we weren’t sure what to expect, but one bite of their rib-eye, and we were sold. The meat is cooked to perfection, charred on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth tender inside. And the sides? Definitely not an afterthought.

Their triple-cooked chips are the crispy, golden fries you’ve always dreamed of, and the bone marrow gravy? Rich, indulgent, and pretty much the perfect steak partner. The menu has other options if steak isn’t your thing, but honestly, skipping the steak here feels like missing out.

Pro tip:
If you’re looking to treat yourself without breaking the bank, go for their express menu during the week. You’ll get a smaller portion of steak, plus a couple of sides, for a fraction of the price.

The atmosphere is electric, almost like stepping into a lively Italian piazza. It’s also a prime spot for some serious people-watching.

When it comes to the food, San Carlo nails authentic Italian cuisine. The menu has everything from classic pasta to fresh seafood, with so many options it’s hard to choose. The spaghetti carbonara is a standout—creamy, perfectly seasoned, and with just the right amount of pancetta.

Pro tip:
If you want to experience the vibe without the wait, head there for a late lunch during the week. It’s a bit quieter, but the energy is still there, and you’ll get the same delicious food with a more relaxed pace.

Gaucho Manchester is the perfect spot for a special splurge. The sleek, stylish, and cool Argentinian vibe creates an upscale dining experience without the stuffy atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where we can dress up and still feel relaxed.

The steaks at Gaucho are on another level. We’re talking cuts of beef so tender you barely need a knife.

When we first went, the Chateaubriand was the choice—it comes out perfectly medium-rare with an amazing sear on the outside. It’s one of those simple yet flawless dishes where the meat is the star, and by the way—chimichurri sauce on the side? It’s the perfect match.

Pro tip:
If you’re looking for a quick bite or a relaxed, leisurely lunch, check out their lunch set menu. It’s available Monday to Friday from 12 pm to 3 pm and has a great selection of lighter dishes, perfect for midweek dining.
