Bella Spa is a beauty and pampering fixture in the NQ for over a decade now. With a new branch in Bury, we’re very keen on the needed style overhaul for this branch!

Although it’s a go-to spot for lovely manicures, a lesser-known ace up in its sleeve is the eyelash extension service. We tried what Bella Spa’s lash specialists have to offer one day, and boy, were we chuffed.

But safety first.

We’re quite thankful to have received the reminder to first drop by on an earlier day for a quick patch test to fettle the risk of allergies or bad skin reactions. Once over that, the application of the extensions proceeds as scheduled. 

Our assigned team member was over the moon, as the skilful lash technician made her Hybrid extensions (a mix between a Russian and a classic look) so natural. It’s not priced the lowest around, but the quality is superb.

Amazing and affordable Russian lashes

“Had my lashes done here twice now and each time they keep getting better. The treatment is relaxing and you are made to feel extremely comfortable. The lashes are an amazing quality and unlike other salons the natural lash is not damaged underneath. My lashes have lasted for 5/6 weeks and do not look patchy when beginning to fall out. Who would’ve thought that bubbly can be the perfect companion for salon-quality beauty pampering? We guess the days of having a glass just in the tub are over now, thanks to Beauty and Bubbles.

The salon’s major draw is the complimentary glass of bubbly for nail treatments. However, we really would’ve loved it better if the free champagne extended to the other services, including the lash extensions—we can defo drink it after!

That aside, the lash extensions here are safe, top-notch, and economical. Multiple birds that are hit in our books, albeit with the limited styles available.

I was the team’s sacrificial lamb for this review, and the compulsory patch test, as well as the gentle hands and clear communication of the technician who served me, truly impressed!

All materials used feel top-grade, and our gut might be right, since Beauty and Bubbles distributes a handful of beauty brands. The sales talk sometimes feels like a hard sell, though.

If you want your lashes to be handled by experts, London Lash should be on your list. Although younger compared to its competitors, that’s hardly an issue, really, since you’ll be getting specialised care.

We’ll say it right away: the biggest possible dealbreaker here is the price. We felt the pinch trying it ourselves, since the treatments here go upwards of £90.

To add, it was challenging to find this lash salon because it’s upstairs in a listed building, and there is no visible signage at street level. The setup is also quite public, where customers lie on side-by-side beds.

Nonetheless, the price speaks for the quality of the service itself. 

You’ll really feel that the staff go the extra mile, from the website with the comprehensive descriptions of each type of eyelash extension available, to the careful conduct of the consultations and patch tests. 

They have lashes for all levels of drama and even offer a ‘tester’ set for those who still aren’t all in on the glam.

Of all the salons in this list, Lilly just might be the biggest one in terms of branches. They’ve got their footing across multiple UK locations, including Manchester Piccadilly.

The MCH salon is pretty, with the lower floor dedicated to spa treatments and the upper one for nails and lashes. You can feel that it’s clean with a vibrant, feminine vibe fit for the situation, but we would’ve liked it better if the lash area were a bit more closed off.

We appreciate the reasonable pricing. We also had a pleasant experience getting the Wispy-type of lash extensions—something that isn’t always found in other salons.

However, there are also some things that push us to give our heads a wobble. 

Some of the salon’s past clients have noted that their lash extensions fell easy way earlier, sometimes even on the next day.

Maybe it’s just a case of too little glue applied, but we hope the salon continues to improve its equipment and techniques.

Society Beauty is a quaint salon that many people label as ‘cute’. To us, reminiscent of lavender fields, thanks to the pastel violet palette and the (artificial) floral pieces hanging down from its ceiling.

The variety of lash styles to choose from is great. We’re quite surprised that here, we could still get something way flashier than the typical Russian lashes, in the one they call the ‘Mega Volume’.

Despite this, the prices for the lash extensions are still reasonable—not cheap, but more mid-tier—and that’s perfectly fine with the quality.

Our only gripe? The overall feel of Society Beauty might be plain, contrary to the florals all around.

There’s a missing ‘oomph’, for the lack of a better word. The demeanour of the technicians could make someone feel off or worse, make them fall asleep, thus a more personable approach should be in order.
