- FAQs about Therme in Manchester
I don’t know about you, but sometimes when I’ve had a shoddy week, I feel like getting a full decompression treatment. And sometimes, even the nearest spa just won’t do—give me all the works needed to get every little bit of stress taken away!
But as it turns out, I (and many other stressed-out-of-their-minds Mancunians) might just get our wish soon. Enter Therme, Manchester’s soon-to-be first urban wellbeing resort!
Set to open near the Bridgewater Canal in late 2028, Therme promises an ultra-relaxation experience. Though if you’re wondering what exactly will be in store for you at Therme, and what to expect once it’s opened to the public, then have no fear!
I’ve made this guide so that you know what to do when the time comes for its grand opening. So leave your worries and unease at the door and see what Therme will have to offer you once it opens!
What is Therme?
Therme is an urban wellbeing resort that’s currently under construction. It’s also the work-in-progress project of Therme Group, a wellness company that has numerous thermal-based resorts, spas, and saunas around Europe.
The resort grounds are planned to be spacious enough to hold around 1.7 million visitors and contain both indoor and outdoor venues for facilities.
Therme aims to give visitors the ultimate relaxation experience through different techniques and amenities in an environment that combines culture, nature, and technology. Now, how exactly does it do so?
Well, that’s mostly through all sorts of multi-sensory experiences, wellness facilities and practices or facilities that use thermal water!
This means there will be lots of water and steam-based attractions and amenities, combined with the typical features of a luxury spa, plus health and fitness therapies.
Aside from its water and steam-based attractions, you could also find all sorts of greenery and vegetation around the resort grounds, especially in the outdoor venues.
So once you’ve stepped inside on opening day, say hello to lots of different plants and botanical gardens!
Therme will also go by an RFID-driven locker and currency system, for the convenience of visitors and guests. So there will also be a way for you to easily pay for and purchase all sorts of services and goodies at the resort!
In between water therapies and wellness exercises, guests will also get to enjoy a bite or two. That’s because there will be different cafés, restaurants, and even pool bars that will be dotted around the resort grounds!
Currently, there are plans to construct 10 pools, 18 water slides, over 25 saunas, a roof terrace, and a multi-storey car park. There are also plans to construct glass buildings with maintained temperatures of 33ºC to keep guests comfortable.
For any inquiries you might have, Therme’s website has a contact page where you can send in any questions.
What is Therme’s timeline?
Therme Manchester has been in the works for quite some time. The first-ever known plans to build an urban wellness resort in Trafford City were announced way back in 2019!
In that year, Therme Group had a meeting with Trafford City residents to consult on the project’s viability and details. Then, in March 2020, Trafford Council gave their thumbs-up to the project idea.
Construction began in 2021, since there were plans to open the resort in 2023. But, as we all know, COVID struck the world, throwing a wrench into the construction plans.
So the opening was pushed back to 2025, but even then, the opening year was further pushed back to 2027, and then to 2028. Why? Well, because Therme Group had struck up a partnership with CVC, affecting construction.
It was only after EventCity was demolished in January 2023 that they were able to start construction, which is still currently in progress.
Where will you find Therme?
Therme Manchester is located on Barton Dock Road, Trafford Park, in Stretford. It’s in proximity to the Bridgewater Canal, being southwest of the canal.
The spot where it’s currently being constructed used to be the site of the EventCity exhibition centre, so it stands adjacent tothe Trafford Centre.
How can you get to Therme?
Of course, you could always take the obvious route and drive over to Therme yourself, they’ll install a carpark there after all! But for those of you who want to save up on petrol (or can’t drive, no shame in that), there are a number of ways you can get there.
The Bee Network tram stop has a connection between Deansgate, Castlefield and Barton Dock Road. That trip should take you somewhere between 7 and 19 minutes. It also has a stop at the Trafford Centre, which is a fairly quick walk away from Therme.
You can also get on the Bee Network bus stops C and D, which will drop you off at Trafford Park near Barton Dock Road. Both buses have routes that pass by the stops in Gorton and Trafford Bar, so you could catch a bus from there and get dropped off at Therme.
Why You Should Check Out Therme Once It Opens
While Therme is still a work in progress, there is no shortage of reasons why it would be worth trying out once it opens. After all, we all need a break from the rat race and a large urban wellbeing resort might just be what you need!
But if you still need some further convincing, then not to worry! I’ve prepared a list just for you, so don’t worry your pretty head off. So here are the reasons why you should decompress in Therme Manchester!
Facilities and Amenities Galore

If there’s one thing you can be sure of with any Therme Group resort, it’s that there will be tons of features to enjoy; the number of facilities alone might excite you!
Once Therme Manchester is open and ready for guests, you won’t know where to go first! Your first time in Therme Manchester will be a whole relaxation adventure for you.
So you will have plenty of sights to see, services to try out, and places to be. And it’s all under one property!
Holistic Treatment and Relaxation

One thing to look forward to with Therme is…well, it’s not actually one thing, but it’s lots of things! Therme Manchester plans to include all sorts of wellness and wellbeing care facilities in its plan, so you’ll feel like you’re getting the full treatment.
You’ll look forward to things like steam-based relaxations, deep tissue massages, delicious healthy food prepared by skilled chefs–the whole kit and kaboodle, basically.
With this, you can try out all kinds of treatments, techniques and methods, and possibly all in the same day!
Green All Around

Green is a great colour to just…stare at when you need to rest your eyes for a bit. It’s the kind of colour that helps relax your eyes and causes less strain on them–it’s psychologically and scientifically true!
So it’ll be a huge relief for your sight once all the plants and nature-themed landscaping of Therme surrounds you. You’ll be able to rest from staring at a screen or being surrounded by skyscrapers and instead, get to enjoy being surrounded by greenery.
Tropical Decompression

Okay, so it’s not exactly a beach, but it might as well be the next best thing! Since the entire resort is planned to maintain an indoor temperature of 33ºC, it’ll feel like it’s already summer in Manchester.
Add in all the pools, pool bars, and palm trees, and you’ve got yourself the perfect beach-like setting combined with all the spa luxuries you could ever need. What more could you want, short of booking a pricey vacation abroad?
Fun For The Family
Media from: @thermegroup
That’s right, Therme Group doesn’t just make resorts for adults only! The whole family can join in and decompress along with you in Therme.
Because let’s face it, both adults and kids need some relaxation away from their stress, be it caused by work or school.
And you know what they say: all work, and no relaxation makes Jack a really wound-up lad. Okay, that’s not the exact phrase, but you get the idea. So bring your kids along and enjoy the warm pools and water slides together; your little ones might thank you!
Finding a Community
Media from: @thermegroup
If part of your stress comes from feeling a little lonely, then Therme has something for you! If the open space plans and communal areas planned for Therme tell us anything, it’s that it will also be a great place to make new friends and connections.
Plus, Therme Group has also done numerous community-based initiatives, like fun runs and collaborative artworks, so similar projects could also extend to Therme Manchester.
Not to mention, the community is one of the focal points for Therme Manchester’s mission statement.
Relax All Year Round
Media from: @thermegroup
No matter the time of day, time of the month, or even the time of the year, Therme Manchester’s doors will be open for anyone looking to relax!
Therme Group’s goal, after all, is to bring attention to wellness and well-being care. And that’s a goal that isn’t on a seasonal calendar—they want to bring urban wellness to Manchester without any focus on following a trend or fad.
Tips for Visiting Therme Manchester
While you’ve still got quite a bit of time to prepare before Therme opens to the public, it wouldn’t hurt to keep a list of reminders and things to note down before you try it out! So here’s my own little list of tips for your first (hopefully of many) visits to Therme:
Search up other Therme branches and websites
Now, I’m not saying that Therme Manchester will follow a very strict blueprint set in stone, but it’s a good way to get a bit of a heads up on what to expect.
Plus, you can also gauge the possible entrance fee prices by looking at the ones for previous Therme Group resort projects. So you’ve already got a head start on how much you should save up!
Prebook tickets once they’re available
No doubt that once the announcement has been made that Therme Manchester is open, there’ll be lots of people scrambling to get in! Everyone loves to have a luxurious relaxation, after all.
Which is why I’d suggest prebooking yourself a spot the moment that you can. It’ll save you from lots of headaches later on–the exact thing you’d want to avoid with Therme!
Make the most out of the RFID wristbands
Part of this means learning and familiarising yourself with how the RFID wristband system will work, since this will be a really integral part of the experience.
This also means using the RFID wristband as much as possible, for convenience’s sake. That way, once you’re inside the resort grounds, you’ll be able to easily get around and enjoy everything to its fullest.
Stay updated online
Which is all the more important since this is a work-in-progress project! So staying updated on the latest developments and news will help you prepare and plan for your visit to Therme, especially when it comes to tickets.
