Top 10 Burrito Spots in Manchester

Do you remember your first taste of a burrito? I do.

I couldn’t wrap my head around (pun intended) the idea of savoury rice, beans, and meat rolled into something that’s larger than my head. Yet here we are years later—I just can’t get enough of it!

So, together with the team, we rode trams all over the city to find the best burrito spots in Manchester. We’re quite confident you’ll find one that’s just right up your alley, so read on!

An Arndale mainstay for at least 15 years now, Pancho’s Burritos can be considered a proper Mancunian icon.

Its Food Market stall might be quaint and small, but it doesn’t fail to serve tasty and hot Mexican nosh—all the goods, from the tacos and tamales to the enchiladas and burritos.

We’d usually suggest something unique in the menu, but since we’re talking about burritos today, we’ll be right on point.

You can get the famous roll in a small or large size, with pork, beef, chicken, and even lamb filling. But if you don’t like tortillas, you can also grab your “naked” burrito in a bowl.

Pro tip:
Pay in cash, if you can. As of this writing, Pancho’s Burritos gives those who do so a plate of tortilla chips with some guac for free.

Listo Burrito (or “Changos Burrito Bar” for those who’ve known it way back) has been a delight for Mancunians and Scousers (Liverpool residents) since 2013. Its Manchester branch continues to serve long queues for burrito-hungry customers to this day.

One can get either a normal tortilla-wrapped burrito or a ‘solo’ burrito sans the tortilla in a bowl. You’ll surely be proper chuffed for the variety of fillings available, as well as the vast number of toppings and sauces—all included upfront in the amount you pay.

There’s also the nachos to add, but since they’re only available in large portions, we suggest you only order this if you’re starving or are eating with a group.

Pro tip:
Students really have the best perks. They get a 10% discount on their bill, as long as they show their ID.

One of three branches of Tortilla restaurant in Manchester, we chose the Piccadilly Station shop for its splendid service to people on-the-go. Nothing beats great taste and efficiency, especially if you’re running late on your morning trip to work!

As with other burrito shops, Tortilla has both a roll burrito and a naked burrito on its menu. So, what’s different with this one, you ask?

Well, it’s all in the freshness of the ingredients, they say, and we agree. We think the fast location helps a lot with the fast travel of fresh burrito components to and from this store.

Pro tip:
Tortilla at Piccadilly Station unfortunately doesn’t participate in the brand’s rewards program. If you want to rack up the points, better go to a different branch.

Brewski in Chorlton is all about American goodies that soothe the soul. There’s all the burgers and fries in store for anyone who’ll dine, but this shop offers a unique take on the rice-based Mexican rolls.

True to the American spirit, Brewski’s supersized stuffed crust burritos are big, hearty, and ones to try out! These feature a whopping amount of protein (pork belly, chicken thigh, or pulled pork), flavourful salsa, and of course, perfectly cooked rice.

However, if you’re ordering for a group but still want to sample Brewski’s burritos, then you can do so with the “OG Date Mate” platter.

Pro tip:
Enjoy your burritos and drinks al fresco at Brewski. It has outdoor seating, perfect for days when the sun is out and shining bright!

Given the name, it’s easy enough to guess what Barburrito is all about. As the actual OG burrito joint in the whole UK, which started with its first branch in Manchester Piccadilly in 2005, this shop introduced many of us to the wonderful world of burritos.

Barburrito is still wonderful, especially with the Classic and Loaded burritos that come with fillings like grilled chicken, pulled pork, or barbacoa beef. But wait, there’s really more!

Grab the Everything burrito, a spectacular dish made for tummies (or two to three people). You can have it stuffed with four fillings—now the challenge is to finish it all in one sitting!

Pro tip:
Do ask the friendly staff if you’re looking for halal options. They’ll carefully guide you through the menu.

If you’re craving a crunchier version of a burrito after your trip to the National Football Museum, then you’ll be in for a treat at Chiquito. It’s a short stroll away at Printworks, ready for those who want a snack or something heavier.

For those who didn’t know yet, a burrito can be deep-fried to make its soft tortilla wrapping a crispy delight—the inside remains soft but somehow gets more flavourful. This is called a chimichanga and is served at Chiquito.

Chiquito’s chimichanga is banging! Served with sour cream, salsa, and guacamole—the trifecta of Mexican sides—it’s dead good with an ice-cold margarita.

Pro tip:
Cocktails don’t only come in glasses at Chiquito. Grab a pitcher, erm, GIANT cocktail glass, of your choice of drink—it’s already enough for you and up to two friends.

Care to visit this Fallowfield newbie called the Mexican? We agree—the name could’ve been a bit more creative, but this independent and family-owned place brings something special to jolly old Mexican fare.

The restaurant also serves basic Mexican dishes, but one standout, even compared to similar places, is its cola pork carnitas burritos. It isn’t a burrito you see every day, given the quirky use of cola (pop) in the recipe.

That said, the use of pork could be a dealbreaker, especially to those who are forbidden by custom to eat it, but thankfully, there are still six other fillings to choose from.

Pro tip:
Not a fan of rice, but still want a taste of the cola pork at the Mexican? Order some quesadillas with this sweet-savoury pork filling instead.

Casa Mexica Manchester

The kids along the Oxford Road Corridor are really lucky. They seem to have the best of restaurants, whether that may be typical Brit, American, or even Japanese!

Now add to that list Casa Mexica at Chester Street. This joint is a feast for the eyes for its colourful motif, but its menu is short but sweet, having burritos at its forefront (aside from tacos, nachos, and quesadillas).

You can order the roll à la carte or as part of Casa Mexica’s reasonably priced meal deals. Either way, you’ll get a generous portion (beef-filled is always a banging one).

Pro tip:
Have we mentioned that Casa Mexica loooooves students? It gives a 15% discount to this group.

Zambrero Manchester Piccadilly

  • Saturday and Sunday – 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM

For those looking for something filling to eat while on-the-go, Zambrero at Manchester Piccadilly is a brilliant choice for a quick burrito fix. Although it’s a fast food joint, we considered it for its peculiar (but great) take on the Mexican roll.

Zambrero’s burritos are available in three main variants. First is the classic that has all the bells and whistles—rice, beans, meat and lettuce.

Second is the bowl (tortilla-less) version, which is just as tasty! Last, there’s a toasted and veggie-less type, which we’re currently very fond of because it has more cheese than any of the other two types we’ve mentioned.

Pro tip:
Zambrero has a noble initiative against hunger called “Plate 4 Plate.” Every burrito you’ll purchase is doing more good than you’d expect—Zambrero sends a matching healthy meal to someone in need in a poor country.

Las Iguanas Manchester

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Thursday – 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM

  • Sunday – 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Menu

Las Iguanas specialises in casual Mexican dining. It’s posh, thanks to its Deansgate location, but that doesn’t mean that its dishes don’t pack a punch!

This restaurant is popular for its tapas (small plates) that are paired with drinks. However, you shouldn’t miss out on the rest of its menu—for a proper meal, the fajitas are the usual choice, but trying out the burritos isn’t a bad move, either.

Why so? Las Iguanas’ grills the tortilla for its burritos, imparting a smokiness that improves flavours.

Not only that, the mushroom and roasted corn filling, albeit geared towards vegan diners, is quite pleasant and undoubtedly light.

Pro tip:
Get a burrito and more when you order the Evening Eats promo at Las Iguanas! Just make sure to bring a friend with you since the meal is for two people.
