Cottonopolis is a cocktail bar that offers a unique dining and drinking experience that blends modern aesthetics with the city’s industrial heritage.
The first thing that caught our attention was their stylish and contemporary decor. From what we’ve seen, it showcases an exquisite fusion of industrial elements and sleek modernity.
The combination of heritage-inspired design and contemporary touches provides a unique ambiance that sets Cottonopolis Bar apart.
Cottonopolis Bar excels in crafting artisanal cocktails, elevating the drinking experience for patrons.
Additionally, the bar boasts an impressive selection of premium spirits, wines, and craft beers, ensuring something for everyone.
As for its food offerings, Cottonopolis offers a fusion of Japanese and Western cuisine, which pairs well with its beverage and cocktail menu.
They have four menus available, depending on when you’ll dine with them. Furthermore, they also have a separate plant-based menu which we think is a great choice for vegans and vegetarians alike.
On the flip side, we do have to note some downsides—one of which is their quality of service.
Some patrons we’ve talked to claimed delays in receiving orders, lapses in attention from staff, and occasional difficulty in getting servers’ attention during busy periods.
In addition, Cottonopolis’ prices tend to be higher, which may deter budget-conscious individuals.
While the quality of the food and beverages justifies the cost for some, others may find it challenging to justify the higher prices compared to similar establishments in the area.

Cons

- More expensive than other establishments
Tucked away in a hidden corner in King Street, Arcane offers a mysterious and enigmatic atmosphere, aiming to captivate patrons with its unique concept.
The first thing that caught our attention is Arcane’s intriguing ambiance and decor. The dimly lit space, adorned with vintage furnishings, antique trinkets, and a touch of mysticism, creates an immersive and atmospheric experience.
We love the attention to detail in the bar’s design, which adds to its allure and enhances the overall sense of enchantment.
Notably, Arcane takes pride in its handcrafted cocktail creations. From classic concoctions to innovative recipes, it offers a range of options that cater to diverse tastes.
From our research, we found that there will be about 16 new cocktails on the menu every eight to twelve weeks—in addition to some old favorites.
But we also observed that while Arcane Bar emphasizes its crafted cocktails, its overall drink selection can be somewhat limited.
That said, we believe that cocktail lovers and aspiring mixologists would be happy with the constantly changing menu of drinks.
We must mention, though, that its somewhat obscure location can make it challenging to find for first-time visitors. Additionally, it has a narrow entrance and staircase that can pose difficulties for individuals with mobility challenges.
All things considered, we think that the negatives do not overshadow the overall enigmatic appeal of the bar.
3. OSMA

Cons
- Crowded Peak Hours

- Higher Price Range
Sofie Stoermann-Nass and Danielle Heron’s Scandi-influenced, Michelin-rated OSMA combines the pair’s hometowns of Oslo and Manchester.
In our books, OSMA Bar’s lively environment is one of its most notable aspects. The venue is always buzzing with excitement, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking for a great night out.
From what we’ve seen, energetic music and enthusiastic DJs keep patrons delighted and interested all evening which is a big plus in our books!
As for their drink offerings, we have to give it to them in terms of variety. From classic cocktails to craft beers and fine wines, the bar’s extensive menu ensures there is something for everyone.
Furthermore, their mixologists showcase skill and creativity in crafting delicious and visually stunning concoctions that never fail to impress.
We also like that OSMA serves Scandinavian-style open sandwiches, salads, and soups by day–two meals for £24 and three dishes for £29.
Just a heads up: they have separate offerings during their evening hours. OSMA’s ‘food bar’ serves a selection of 12 sharing plates and three snacks that change regularly, guaranteeing that no two visits are identical.
On the downside, we found that the venue can get crowded due to its popularity. This means limited seating is available during peak hours.
In addition, since OSMA primarily focuses on its beverage offerings, some patrons may find the food options somewhat limited.
The bar does offer a selection of small bites and snacks. Still, those looking for a substantial meal might need to explore alternative dining options before or after their visit.

Pros

Cons
- Limited cocktail selections
- Limited food offerings
- Slow service during peak hours
For those looking for a more laid-back and relaxed atmosphere, The Black Friar might be the best choice for you! It boasts a unique atmosphere that sets it apart from other bars in Manchester.
Housed in a historic building with exposed brick walls, dim lighting, and vintage decor, The Black Friar exudes a charming and rustic vibe.
The snug corners and intimate spaces provide a sense of privacy, making it an excellent choice for a relaxed evening with friends or a romantic date.
Beer enthusiasts will also appreciate The Black Friar’s selection of craft beers. From local brews to international favourites, the bar curates a diverse and ever-changing range of options to cater to different palates.
Another thing we liked here is its knowledgeable staff who’s always ready to recommend and provide insights into the various beer offerings. For us, they enhanced our overall experience.
They also take the time to interact with patrons, offering recommendations and ensuring that guests feel comfortable and well taken care of throughout their visit.
Overall, we love how The Black Friar offers such a cosy experience. We were just slightly disappointed at its somewhat limited drink selection.
For those seeking a broader range of options, such as cocktails, spirits, or non-alcoholic beverages, the choices might feel restrictive.
