Namaste Nepal has been part of the busy main strip for years and it never gets tired with smiling service and a crowd-pleasing menu that brings together Nepalese specialities and Indian favourites.

If you’re not familiar with the cuisine of Nepal (it’s something that’s becoming more and more popular) then the momos are unmissable. These little steamed dumplings are bundles of joy, especially when dipped into the traditional fiery chilli sauce.

Other Nepalese recommendations include KC fish, the chef’s signature spicy barbecued mackerel and chicken khursani which will blow your mind in more ways than one. It’s an ideal partner for an ice cold Nepalese beer.

Pro tip:

Try the momos with their traditional chilli sauce for an authentic taste.

Looking for a modern butcher that offers premium local produce? Head to Little Pigs in Didsbury, and you won’t be disappointed. From the age of nine, co-owner Rebecca Harrison and her brother Sam would help their parents around the shop, linking sausages and the likes.

Fusing traditional values with contemporary style, Little Pigs source their beef, pigs and lamb from a local abattoir in Knutsford working with local farms who rear only grass-fed, free-range animals.

Chickens are sourced from small Yorkshire farms that have animal welfare at their focus. One of their best-selling products is their dry aged beef which is prepared on the bone.

They also sell ready-to-cook joints that are perfectly pre-seasoned with fragrant and tasty rubs.

Pro tip:

Check out their pre-seasoned joints for easy, flavourful cooking at home.

Indique

Indique is formed from the words Unique and Indian. That’s a bit optimistic as many Indian restaurants have swapped their chicken tikka masala and their lamb rogan josh for bhel puri and gobi Manchurian.

However, West Didsbury’s Indique does a good job; its menu is a tempting one with some unusual dishes and food is tasty and very well presented. How many curry houses have a cloche?

There’s a focus on street food with dishes like dahi puri and chilli paneer and there is a good charcoal grill selection too serving everything from tandoori chicken to scallops. Vegan dishes are perhaps the most interesting and come the closest to meriting the Indique moniker.

Typical main courses include ratan manjosa, or spinach and paneer dumplings in a creamy tomato, cashew nut and fenugreek sauce or lau mussallam – marrow stuffed with potato, nuts and cottage cheese and served with a rich caramelised onion sauce.

Pro tip:

Opt for the pre-show set menu for a delightful three-course experience.

Piccolino Didsbury

So, you’re wandering around West Didsbury and fancy an Italian feast? Piccolino Didsbury is your spot. Imagine sitting on their large alfresco terrace with a fully retractable roof – perfect for an Aperol Spritz in the sun or a full three-course meal inspired by Italy’s diverse regions.

The chefs here are serious about sourcing quality ingredients; think hand-filled pastas made with Neapolitan 00 flour, fine semolina, and free-range eggs. They’re big on traditional techniques too – slow-rising, hand-stretched pizza dough and daily-baked breads.

And the seafood? Sourced sustainably from the UK’s clear waters and the finest day boats around the British Isles. Try a specialty cake from their dolci counter with some gelato and maybe a glass of Moscato if you’re feeling fancy.

Pro tip:

Go for the hand-stretched pizzas or the bistecca steak for an authentic Italian treat.

Right in the heart of Burton Road, Proove Pizza is the place to be if you’re a pizza lover. Their cool, sleek interior might not have much character, but trust me, the pizza more than makes up for it.

They use 00-grade flour for their bases, proved for 20 hours to get that perfect balance of chewy and crisp, then fired up in their wood-fired oven. Sticking to classic toppings, they nail it with quality ingredients – even a simple Americana can be a revelation here.

Their vegan menu is a well-thought-out selection designed by vegans for vegans. Expect seasonally changing toppings like artichoke and beetroot with basil oil or spinach, leeks, and roasted cauliflower.

And the beers? They’ve got their own Proove Pale, perfect to wash down all that pizza goodness.

Pro tip:

Don’t miss their vegan pizzas – they’re a game-changer.

Next stop: OKitchen Bar & Restaurant. It’s a Korean gem right here in West Didsbury; sure, they dabble in Japanese cuisine, but the heart and soul of this place are pure Korean. The sushi is decent, but if you’re here, you’re really after the Korean dishes.

Start with gang jung or bulgogi – bold, hearty flavours that hit the spot. Their dolsot bibimbap and bokkeumbap are top picks; these rice dishes come loaded with seasoned veggies and other goodies, all mixed together for a taste explosion.

For something fun and interactive, try the Korean BBQ. You get a platter of marinated morsels (the squid and pork combo is fab), some bulgogi sauce, and a bunch of pickles to wrap up in lettuce. It’s a bit messy, but that’s part of the fun!

The kimchi-jjigae, a hot chilli casserole with everyone’s favourite fermented condiment, is a winner. For a shared dish, go for the haemool jungol, a spicy seafood stew packed with prawns, cod, squid, mussels, clams, and crab, or the budae jjigae.

Pro tip:

Dive into the dolsot bibimbap! It’s a flavour-packed adventure you won’t regret.

Hyme Out Food has been a local favourite since 2006, and it’s easy to see why. You’ll want to dive into their breakfast burrito, packed with sausage, pancetta, avocado, scrambled egg, cheese, and potato hash. It’s a mouthful, literally and figuratively!

If you’re in the mood for something lighter, their veggie options like the “Come’n avo go if you think you’re hard enough” with smashed avocado, feta, chilli, garlic, and lime oil will hit the spot. Thyme Out focuses on top-quality, freshly made food with locally sourced ingredients.

Though they close in the mid-afternoon, they’re a licensed premises, offering a dangerous range of breakfast cocktails alongside beers, wines, and spirits. If you’re steering clear of the booze, their coffee from Heart & Graft is a must-try.

And don’t leave without sampling a slice of their cake – if you can find room for it!

Pro tip:

The breakfast burrito is a local legend, so definitely don’t miss it.
