We believe that Acacia Lodge Care Home is ideal for those seeking an assisted care living facility with engaging activities. Residents regularly dance or socialise over tea, making every day lively and enjoyable.
On top of this, they offer specialised services, particularly for those needing dementia or palliative care.
We also appreciate that nurses are available 24/7. So, we’re confident that medication and other needs are provided correctly to their residents.
Sadly, they’re a bit far from the city centre, which can make it difficult for loved ones to visit. Luckily, they’re just one minute away by foot from the public transportation stop at Victoria Street.
We also tried calling them to inquire and we’re pleased to share that they’re quick to respond. On top of this, they’re customer support via email is also commendable.
Alternatively, those who are interested may reach out to them through their website, and they’re accommodating as well.
Pros
- Ideal for assisted care with activities
- Specialised dementia and palliative care
- Nurses available 24/7
- Quick to respond to inquiries
Cons
- Far from the city centre

Nazareth House comes highly recommended for those who are particular about having ample space for residents to move around. We like that they have big hallways, gardens, and other communal spaces that cater to everyone’s needs.
Both religious and non-religious residents are welcome here. But we think that it’s best to consider that they incorporate Christianity into almost all of their activities.
Aside from catering to healthcare services related to the special needs of older, frail, and disabled people, we are pleased that they also provide for spiritual, emotional, social, physical, and recreational needs. They have a full staff team available 24 hours per day, always ready to offer help and support to residents whenever needed.
We also discovered that they have the capacity for 66 residents, with a number of en-suite and Jack and Jill bathrooms.
Admittedly, we’re concerned that they’re a bit expensive compared to other establishments, but it’s worth it.
This is especially true when you consider the peace of mind they provide to family members by offering quick and accurate updates, as mentioned by their clients when we conducted surveys.
Pros
- Ample space for residents
- Welcomes religious and non-religious residents
- Comprehensive care for special needs
- 24-hour staff availability
Cons
- Higher cost than other establishments
Pleasant grounds
“Visited with a group of others to provide entertainment for residents and staff. Very pleasant grounds. My comments are made as a visitor. The atmosphere inside is calm and relaxed. I was struck by how spacious and well-kept the communal areas were, including a large hall with stage. The staff were always calm and attentive to the residents and seemed unhurried. The spiritual needs of residents are catered for in the chapel, where daily masses and other Christian services are held. I felt that the Christian aspect of Nazareth House was very valuable.”

Parkview stood out to us because they make their residents feel like they have family. We conducted surveys with their clients, and most mentioned they’re at ease knowing that the staff members here ensure their loved ones are taken care of with compassion.
Furthermore, they offer specialised services for dementia, learning disability, mental health conditions, older person care, and many more. We recommend considering this place if your loved ones have specific care needs.
But what really sets them apart is that they allow pet companions—subject to approval. We’re happy that residents don’t have to feel separation anxiety from their beloved animals.
On the downside, their strict visiting times are a bit off-putting if you ask us. Friends and family are not allowed to drop by between 8:00 am – 10:00 am, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, and 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm.
On top of this, there’s no parking within the vicinity, though we appreciate their proximity to public transportation stops.
Pros
- Family-like environment
- Specialised services for various needs
- Allows pet companions
Cons
- Strict visiting times
- No parking within the vicinity
Grateful
“Myself and my sisters can’t thank Parkview enough for all the care they gave our mum and the support they gave us in the last years of her life. It gives us great comfort to know that she was happy there and participated in some of the activities. We will always be grateful to Lesley and the team for everything they did for us. We will miss you all and thank you so much.”

Broughton House really caught our eye with their well-kept facilities. We interviewed their clients, and most said the area is organised, clean, and perfect for those with special needs.
On top of that, we’re happy that residents can enjoy a cinema room and a relaxing spa room. The landscaped sensory gardens are a lovely touch — offering a peaceful environment for everyone.
We learned that their rooms are spacious and cosy which makes residents feel right at home. Plus, they offer complimentary in-house physiotherapy and chiropody services, which is a fantastic bonus.
Sure, they’re a bit on the pricey side, but we think it’s worth it when we consider their top-notch services.
Additionally, we’re impressed that they’re one of the oldest assisted care living facilities in the area, having been around since 1916. Here, you can be confident that your loved ones will be in good hands.
Pros
- Well-kept facilities
- Access to cinema and spa rooms
- Spacious and cosy rooms
- Complimentary physiotherapy and chiropody
- Established since 1916

Mary & Joseph House is an award-winning establishment and was a finalist in the Caring UK Awards 2021. We think that this accolade assures you that your loved ones will be in exceptionally capable care here.
We’re impressed that their staff is highly qualified. Julie, their manager, brings over 25 years of experience to the role.
On top of that, we also learned that she holds an NVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care and a Registered Managers Level 4 qualification.
They provide 24-hour care, making them ideal for those who need continuous support. For us, this round-the-clock attention ensures that all residents’ needs are promptly met, providing peace of mind to families.
We’re concerned that they’re a bit far from the nearest public transport stop—about a 7-minute walk from Holt Town. This might be slightly inconvenient for those visiting regularly.
Although, we appreciate that they’re conveniently located near the city centre. If you would bring your own vehicle to the facility, you shouldn’t have any issues.
Pros
- Award-winning care
- Experienced and qualified staff
- 24-hour care
- Near city centre
Cons
- A bit far from public transport stops
Pure dedication
“Excellent place helped my dad out massively coming off alcohol . Julie the manager has pure dedication”
