The Top 5 Home Health Care Services in Manchester for Your Loved One’s Compassionate Support

  • Qualifications - The agency must have trained care professionals equipped with deep knowledge and skills in caring for different types of patients to ensure a safe and reliable service.
  • Care Services and Coordination - A service provider with a variety of care plans can accommodate different types of situations. It’s also important to have smooth coordination plans to avoid gaps during transition and in the overall care.
  • Communication, Support, and Service Area - To avoid delays and errors, they must provide ongoing support and must have carers available day and night for emergencies. It would be helpful if they covered loads of areas in Manchester.
  • Fee Transparency - The cost of home health care will vary based on the situation and type of service, so it’s essential for the staff to be honest about the pricing to avoid surprise charges.

When I was a kid, my mum would drop me off at Nan’s while she was out working. For a child whose granny always baked desserts, it was a sweet experience.

So, when I grew up, I knew I would take care of my nan—not because I was obligated to, but because I wanted to. But the world today is entirely different from when I was young, where the work culture keeps you out of the house longer than usual.

I knew I needed help with my nan, who couldn’t be left alone anymore because she had difficulty remembering—she used to go off on her own, and we’d find her at the bus station.

So, I’m sharing with you, fellow family caregivers, a way to properly care for your loved ones. Manchester is home to an incredible group of home health care services that can assist day and night, that can bring some relief to you and your loved ones.

We were delighted with the service of Bluebird Care, where all the care boxes are ticked. They started two decades ago and have now expanded to hundreds of franchises, while maintaining that every location is independently owned and operated.

The families we spoke with were particularly grateful because every care need is met, from children to the elderly. We were pleased with their flexibility in offering visiting, live-in, and nightly care, which greatly helps the patient gain their independence.

Aside from personal care, like assistance with daily tasks, their care professionals are also equipped to handle complex care. Impressively, they’re fully prepared to care for patients in Manchester with dementia, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, and Huntington’s disease.

We wish to highlight their children’s care, which isn’t a service most home health care providers offer. Parents can take a break and feel at ease, as the carers are trained to look after kids with physical and developmental conditions.

Accessibility-wise, they’re good but not perfect. Sadly, they don’t cover Manchester East, but they do have other locations in the city.

Pros

  • Independently owned and operated
  • Wide range of care plans
  • Works with children, adults, and the elderly
  • Flexible services

Cons

  • Doesn’t cover the east of Manchester

It’s clear that Bluebird Care truly cares about delivering excellence in every aspect of their service. Highly recommend!”

With over two decades of experience, Ignite Healthcare is a home health care service in Manchester that has gained our trust. But that’s not the only reason why, as their care professionals have exceeded our expectations.

For instance, we were pleased with the level of care we’ve seen. During our surveys, the families of their patients noted a smooth overall experience, including those who needed to transition from home care to complex care.

Hardly surprising, really, given their programs include home, specialist, and live-in care. Every little thing is adaptable, resulting in a well-managed transition and coordination.

While we found their coordination seamless, it’s worth noting that their medical support is “nurse-led,” which means nurses oversee theclinical care plans and provide training for ventilator and trach management.

Day-to-day visits are carried out by specialised caregivers. For most families, this isn’t a dealbreaker, as their staff demonstrated exceptional proficiency.

We were actually pleased by their specialist care, as it goes beyond daily personal care. Their care professionals have shown outstanding service by assisting with medical support, such as monitoring vital signs and supervising ventilators.

Pros

  • Smooth transition of care
  • Assists with medical support
  • Caregivers are trained for medical support
  • Easily adaptable plans

Cons

  • Nursing support varies by care intensity

All the carers are kind, thoughtful, and professional

“The Ignite Health Care Team have cared for my 99year old father since February 2023. All the carers are kind, thoughtful and professional showing great respect at all times. He likes the continuity of familiar faces which puts him at ease and gives him confidence. This was particularly important when there was overnight care when I took a short break. The management team organised this facility really well as they did when dad was repeatedly admitted into hospital. They restarted the care package very promptly each time for which I was grateful. Finally, I would like to praise all the carers for their punctuality and the management’s communication with me when appropriate.”

Have been doing an incredible job

“Ignite healthcare have been caring for my mum since June 2023 and I have to say have been and are doing an in incredible job. We love the carers and how much they care above and beyond for my mum. We have gotten to know them really well and all I have is immense praise for them all. I would recommend ignite to anyone.”

A highly accessible home health care provider is Home Instead. They have locations across the UK, including several offices in Greater Manchester, which makes hiring a visiting or live-in carer easy as Shepherd’s pie.

We were over the moon with their care plans, including domiciliary, live-in, and specialist care. What truly caught our attention was their flexibility in offering hourly and overnight care, which allows family caregivers to take a break for a few hours each day.

Aside from non-medical home care, we were delighted that they have health services. It’s basically complex care support, but this time, it’s considerably improved by assisting patients with stoma and gastrostomy issues.

Furthermore, they provide catheter care, vital signs monitoring, ventilator care, and wound care. They’ve checked all the boxes, except that not all specialist care services are available in all Manchester locations.

Nonetheless, their bespoke services allow every family to find the right care plan based on their needs and budget. Flexibility is always at the centre here, especially with their carers’ versatile schedules.

Pros

  • Several locations in Greater Manchester
  • Offers hourly and live-in care
  • Provides health care services
  • Has budget flexibility

Cons

  • Specialist care services vary per location

Excellent care providers

“Excellent care providers, committed to supporting older people to live independently at home, supporting customer choice and delivering a quality led service. No visit less than an hour. No task, undone.”

Have continued to go above and beyond my expectations

“I was in a very difficult situation recently where my Gran was hospitalised and my vulnerable Granddad who is heavily medicated was at home alone. I spent 3 weeks off of work caring for him searching for help which was not forthcoming from social services. I instructed Home Instead to look after him. They have spent a great deal of time and effort (especially Kim) keeping me update and ensuring everything from hospital visits to calling up and obtaining INR results every week. They have continued to go above and beyond my expectation and have a real desire to ensure that its as pleasant as possible for everyone involved and also cost effective for myself. I hope not to require Home Instead’s help for the foreseeable future as my Grandparents need to be moved to assisted living. I do have to confess that they lost my Granddad on the first day! It wasn’t their fault as he had decided to order a Taxi and go off on his own accord! However once located they dealt with the situation calmly and returned him home.”

SureCare Trafford has got home health care sorted, literally! A vast range of services that accommodate children to older adults, what’s not to like?

To give you an idea, their care plans cater to all sorts of situations, from helping patients get out of bed to encouraging social interaction. They have domiciliary care, live-in care, respite care, and complex care.

Additionally, they shine through their children’s home care, which gives parents additional support to care for kids with complex needs. Most of all, their carers assist with the transition to adult care once the children reach 18.

To boot, they take the hassle out of day-to-day tasks through their household support, like gardening or food shopping. As a cherry on top, their pet care services will take your furry friend out for walkies and daily feeding.

They would’ve been perfect if they had nurses on staff to work with patients who need complex care, like tracheostomy tube and catheter management. Their care professionals are equipped to handle these, anyhow.

Pros

  • Vast range of services
  • Assists with household tasks and pet care
  • Smooth transition from children’s care to adult care
  • Provides complex medical support

Cons

  • No nurses for complex medical care

We have had an amazing experience

“We have had an amazing experience with SureCare and would highly recommend to anyone looking for carers. They have been incredibly helpful whether it is cleaning or helping with daily chores. My family member has made good friends with them especially Hamza who is very thoughtful, so I know he is in good hands. If anyone is looking for help and comes across this company I would 100% recommend they go with SureCare as they give a lot of good support. A huge thanks to SureCare Trafford ❤️🙏4”

The level of assistance at Ollie Care has been utterly delightful, which was to be expected, frankly. Their care professionals have undergone strict training for personal and complex care, making them highly qualified for any situation.

It’s also their lovely range of services that impressed us, as they provide hourly, overnight, and live-in care. In addition, their care services are for day-to-day activities (like bathing and dressing), short-term relief, and patients with mental ability decline.

It’s a shame they don’t have a focused children’s care service, but once you have a look at their offerings, they pretty much have things covered for older adults. Plus, their domestic help for housekeeping lifts the weight off the family caregiver’s shoulders.

We want to note that their caregivers have been outstanding. The clients we spoke to mentioned their transparency, reliability, on-time arrivals, and going above and beyond by providing emotional support during tough times.

Pros

  • Wide range of services for older adults
  • Offers domestic help services
  • Available for hourly, nightly, and live-in care
  • Carers handle personal to complex care

Cons

  • No children’s care-focused service

Supportive, reliable, and truly cares
