Pros
- Offers catering services
- Has in-house delivery services
Cons
- More expensive compared to other pie shops
- Has reports of inattentive staff members
Pieminister on Church St stands out in our books as they have several awards from Vegetarian Society, PETA, and British Pie Awards for their sustainable, vegan, and gluten-free pies.
With this, we’re not surprised about the excellent quality of their pies—their savoury selections are our favourite! We’re definitely fans of the delectable gravy that accompanies each one.
Their commitment to accessibility is also notable as they are open every day. However, the late opening hours might be a drawback for some customers.
On a positive note, we give them props for their in-house delivery services that give convenience to those who prefer enjoying their pies at home.
Furthermore, we like that they also have a click-and-collect feature available on their website—a plus for convenience!
We’re just a bit concerned that they’re on the pricier side compared to other pie establishments in the area since their pies start at £16. Nevertheless, the promise of larger portions may make it a justifiable indulgence for those willing to splurge.
We think that it’s also worth noting that their products are limited to pies only — which can be an issue for those who are seeking more variety.
Finally, we’re iffy about the mixed reports regarding their customer service. While our experience there was lovely, some people we spoke with mentioned they had a less than stellar experience with some inattentive staff.
According to our surveys, the customer service at Pieminister draws mixed reviews. While some patrons find the staff lovely, others have expressed concerns about attentiveness and friendliness.

Pros
- Award-winning pies
- Affordable selection
- Offers in-house delivery services
- Available in various cafes in the city
Cons
- Has limited pie selection
We’re impressed with the accolades of Great North Pie Co as they’ve clinched nine categories at the British Pie Awards, including the coveted title of The Best Small Producer.
On top of this, we learned that they’ve eventually been entrusted with judging duties at the awards — solidifying them as authorities when it comes to pies.
Despite their success, we’re happy to note that Great North Pie Co remarkably offers affordability, with prices starting at a modest £5.
However, we must mention that their product range is confined to pies exclusively. On top of this, we’re also a bit iffy that they have a limited selection of just four flavours — which may leave some customers craving more variety.
Regardless of their limited selection, we’re happy with the quality of their pies. We’re fans of their thin crusts that have a crisp and light texture!
Additionally, we especially like how their staff stands out for their extra-nice demeanour and commendable product knowledge.
Another aspect we appreciate about Great North Pie Co is their in-house delivery service. Furthermore, we think that their presence in various cafes around the city makes it even more convenient for pie enthusiasts to indulge in their offerings.
Lastly, they’re open until late on selected days, making them more accessible to Mancunians looking for a late-night snack.

Pros
- Offers live shows
- Closes late
- Can accommodate large groups
- Has a wide selection of drinks
Cons
- Does not have delivery services
Pie & Ale is a place that’s not just about pies but also a hub for socialising. We appreciate that they offer live shows and activities for their patrons — setting them apart from other pie shops in Manchester.
Additionally, the taste of their pies has won hearts, including ours! Upon trying them out, we could see why their best-sellers are chicken and bacon, Caribbean pulled pork, and Moroccan lamb—they’re all savoury and delicious.
And since some in our team are night owls, we’re glad to find that Pie & Ale keeps the doors open until midnight on selected days. For us, this makes them perfect for those who crave a late-night pie fix!
On the downside, we’re a bit let down that they don’t have a delivery service. But their location at The Hive on Lever Street makes it a breeze for us to swing by.
We’re also happy to share that the staff at Pie & Ale are highly commended by their regulars. One customer even shared about their smooth experience for their group of 60.
Furthermore, we appreciate that Pie & Ale’s won’t break the bank, since they start at a reasonable £12. And for an extra treat, their pie toppers are just £1!
And while the pies may take the spotlight here, they also have a wide selection of beverages.
We enjoyed their selection of six carefully curated cask ales, ten kegs, and an extensive selection of cocktails, spirits, wines, and soft drinks to complement our pie feast.

We also give them plus points for their wide array of products. Here, they accommodate various dietary needs, offering vegan, gluten-free, and halal pies.
The best part in our books, though, is that they keep it affordable.
One customer we spoke with shared that FoodyPie works with the specific budget provided, which is– great news for clients planning a big event.
One downside, we noted that FoodyPie doesn’t have a physical store. Nonetheless, we appreciate their in-house delivery service that makes the process more convenient to their patrons!

Pros
- Accessible location
- Offers simple packaging
- Wide menu selection
Cons
- Does not offer delivery services
Peters Bakery is a local gem nestled on Lloyd Street. Their most notable aspect for us is their early opening hours, as they open earlier than most pie shops in the area
With this, we discovered that they are loved by the community for their simplicity and charm, becoming a regular stopover for those heading to work or school.
However, we think that it’s important to mention that they don’t have in-house delivery services.
On a more positive note, we can’t get enough of their pies. We’ve tried their steak pie – and it’s clearly our favourite with its thin crust and flavorful meat chunks.
What adds to Peters Bakery’s appeal to us is the simple on-the-go packaging. We believe that this makes it easy for customers to enjoy their pies — whether it’s a quick bite on the road or a tucked-away treat for lunch break.
And while Peters Bakery is celebrated for their wide selection of pies, their claim to fame extends to a diverse range of products. We also adore their wide selection of bread, as well as sandwiches and cakes — earning them additional points for variety!
Finally, we received good treatment from their staff who greeted us with a smile when we entered the shop. We also appreciate that they were knowledgeable and patiently explained their food selection to us – helping us make the right choice.
