What is the RHS Garden Bridgewater?

RHS Garden Bridgewater is a remarkable horticultural project located on the extensive 156-acre Worsley New Hall estate in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. 

It holds the distinction of being the largest garden within the Royal Horticultural Society. It is also recognised as one of the largest and most significant Victorian gardens in the UK.

The creation of this garden involves an ambitious endeavour to revive its historic landscapes, making it one of the most significant gardening projects in Europe at present.

In June 2017, full planning permission was granted, paving the way for an exciting development programme. Approximately three years later, the first phase of the garden opened to the public.

Key features of the garden include the restoration of the Walled Kitchen Garden, as well as the recreation and enhancement of historical elements such as the tree-lined Garden Approach and the Lost Terraces. 

These terraces, situated between the lake and the former location of Worsley New Hall, have undergone a transformation. Esteemed landscape architect Tom Stuart-Smith was appointed to oversee the garden’s comprehensive master plan.

Additionally, the RHS has constructed a new Learning Centre to educate schools about horticulture. This facility serves as a gathering place for communities and plant experts, offering a Plant Centre and a dedicated RHS Gardening Advice Service. 

These resources provide people with scientifically-based expert knowledge to assist them in gardening at home.

Now, let me share a personal experience from my own visit to RHS Garden Bridgewater. I was exploring a serene pond when I came across a group of lotus flowers peacefully floating on the water’s surface. 

It was a mesmerising sight, with their delicate petals adding a sense of tranquillity to the surroundings. It was a moment of pure serenity, and I couldn’t help but feel a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature.
