The Top 5 Golf Coaches in Manchester to Swing Into the Right Techniques!

Qualifications: A qualified golf coach, preferably a PGA professional with a solid track record, must know how to adapt their teaching style, allowing them to show the right techniques and spot bad habits.

Programs and Use of Technology: Offering a variety of lessons and utilising advanced technology (like Trackman) can accommodate beginner and advanced golfers in Manchester, complete with accurate data analysis.

Availability and Communication: The more slots there are, the more accessible the lessons will be. Also, clear communication is key to ensuring proper instructions to prevent bad habits.

Rates: Budget accessibility is a priority, but we also looked at the overall lesson’s value for money based on the coach’s teaching strategy and tailored support.

I wasn’t the best golfer. I was more into treetop golf, to be honest, so imagine the shock when I played alongside serious golfers on an actual golf course, who were horrified by my overall play.

I wasn’t going to let myself get the short end of the stick. After a bit of banter, I decided to lock in and learn from a pro because why not show them that I can move up from mini golf?

So I did! Now, my team and I are sharing our favourite golf coaches in Manchester who were so brilliant, they managed to teach complete newbies… like me!

When it comes to qualifications, Brian Connor of the House of Golf has nailed it to a tee. He ticks the boxes by being a PGA Class AA Professional, a Level III golf coach, and a custom fitting specialist.

Furthermore, he’s the founder of the House of Golf, a pro shop located at the Manchester Golf Club. He’s got it all handled, as his shop’s equipped with Trackman technology (for data-driven analysis) and a putting lab (for stroke analysis).

As for coaching, he offers 30-minute and 60-minute golf lessons at the driving range studio and on the course. Although Connor’s availability isn’t as vast as we’d like, he has a team of PGA Professionals with more calendar slots.

The personalisation deserves a mention, where Connor will cover the basics for short and long games. The targeted approach we’ve seen has been rather helpful, to the point that bad habits are replaced with better swing and aim.

Pros

  • A PGA Class AA Professional
  • A custom-fitting specialist
  • Works with a team of PGA Professionals
  • Well-equipped facility

Cons

  • Connor’s availability is limited

Very helpful and knowledgeable

“Brian and the other staff at house of golf are very helpful and knowledgeable and the fitting room is top notch with not just the club feels but stats to go with that back up what clubs are best for you would highly recommend amazing lace and amazing people”

If you fancy PGA golf lessons, Chris Fletcher of Improve My Golf is a name that should be on your list. After all, he has a decade of experience teaching beginners and advanced golfers, including his fellow PGA Professionals.

Plus, he’s one of the most qualified golf coaches we’ve seen in Manchester. He’s the head golf coach, offering mainly one-on-one coaching, who has provided clear instructions that eliminate bad habits and bring in consistent progress.

His lessons are rather enjoyable. From what we’ve seen, he utilises advanced technology (like Trackman) for better data analysis of stance and swing, and that’s on top of delivering a tailored teaching style to accommodate all kinds of students.

You should know, his expertise results in slightly higher rates, with an assessment costing £60 and a 1-hour lesson priced at £90. These fees make sense, though, since Flethcher, a Senior PGA Professional, will thoroughly analyse your whole game.

Pros

  • A Senior PGA Professional and head coach
  • Teaches beginners and PGA Professionals
  • Gives clear instructions
  • Tailored teaching style

Cons

  • Rates are slightly higher
  • Not ideal for group coaching

Really enjoyed the experience

“Had my first lesson with Chris today. I improved my 7 Iron game by 25 yards average distance in the space of 1 hour. Really enjoyed the experience and would strongly recommend doing some lessons if you are thinking about it.”

James Mulvihill, Google Review

Worth every penny

“Lessons with Chris are worth every penny. Top technology, great fun, and most importantly an amazing teacher. I often find myself cracking up at how quickly he’s able to spot (and fix) a glaring issue in my swing”

Tom Fearon’s straightforward approach to golf coaching is what ultimately hooked us in. From the first swing, he has provided easy-to-follow instructions that made the whole lesson pleasant yet professional.

He’s a PGA Professional with over a decade under his belt, teaching beginner golfers and advanced players. His accessibility includes juniors and adults, both for individual and group coaching, although group lessons have limited availability.

Fearon starts with a free 15-minute game analysis, and then you can move on with a 1-hour reasonably priced introductory lesson. His strategy sure had us completely gripped because there’s a nice flow to the whole process.

For example, his relaxed teaching approach can make even the not-so-great players feel more comfortable, resulting in solid results and better game management. Even my mate, who was a complete beginner, had no trouble following instructions.

But his golf lessons aren’t exactly a bargain, costing £75 per hour. Then again, he’s an investment for serious golfers due to his quality of teaching.

Pros

  • PGA Professional
  • Teaches individuals and groups
  • Offers free game analysis
  • Affordable introductory lesson
  • Relaxed teaching approach

Cons

  • Group lessons have limited availability
  • A tad pricier than average

A fantastic coach

“Tom is a fantastic coach, friendly, down to earth, approachable and very knowledgeable. The results speak for themselves back in April I couldn’t hit a ball straight to save my life, (see attached image from April). Now with a major overhaul of my swing technique, thanks to Tom, July image shows so much improvement. Also as a bonus over 50 yards added to my furthest drive. I would absolutely recommend Tom to anyone who wants to play better golf from absolute beginner to someone who just needs a tweak Toms the man. 👍”

Adam Airey, Google Review

He has really helped my consistency on the golf course

“I’ve been having monthly lessons with Tom for a couple of years and he has helped me bring my handicap down. Tom keeps things simple making small changes that really get results. He also provides really useful drills to work on in between lessons and I would say he has really helped my consistency on the golf course. I’ve really enjoyed the lessons with Tom and it’s subsequently improved my enjoyment of golf out on the course!”

Ben McKaigg is a PGA Professional and a Leadbetter GLE certified golf coach, making him highly qualified to teach fundamentals and more. His approach includes famous golf instructor David Leadbetter’s specialised coaching techniques.

But it’s his strategy that first caught our attention, where his genuine care for every student shows. When he coached one of our team members, he communicated every technique clearly, complete with demonstrations.

Accessibility is fantastic with his online and in-person golf lessons in Manchester. Even though group coaching takes a step back, his availability remains top-notch for one-on-one short game, putting, and full swing sessions.

Everything’s personalised to each golfer too, including video analysis and Trackman 4 technology for absolutely accurate data. After all, the Trackman 4 has dual radar, delivering loads of club and data parameters.

We can confidently say that McKaigg’s pricing is fair. A 60-minute driving range studio session in Manchester costs £60, which also includes the cost of golf balls.

Pros

  • A PGA Professional and Leadbetter-certified coach
  • Available for in-person and online sessions
  • Uses advanced technology
  • Rates include the cost of golf balls

Cons

  • No group coaching to book

A fantastic coach and club fitter

“Ben is a fantastic coach and club fitter. I’ve been working with Ben for several months now and we have made some great progress in a short period of time. I’ve also recently had a driver and putter fitting from Ben and the process was faultless, everything was explained really well and many different options were tried to find the best solution.”

Steven Ross, Google Review

Very knowledgeable and detailed coaching

“Very knowledgeable and detailed coaching, improved ball striking and distance in two lessons, would 100% recommend Ben!”

Headed by Rudi Ryan, RR Golf is one of the most accessible golf instructors in Manchester. He brings a people-first approach, where golf is available for everyone.

For instance, aside from the traditional demographic, he concentrates on teaching juniors, women, and individuals with disabilities. And he does it well, as he offers one-on-one coaching tailored for every group.

Moreover, his individual and group coaching enables him to provide customised support. As a handy bonus, he offers indoor and outdoor golf lessons at several locations across Manchester, although with limited availability at certain golf courses.

He remains a solid option, budget-wise, even providing free first sessions for the junior golf academy. In fact, his one-on-one golf coaching lessons range between £30 and £45, depending on the venue.

My nephew had a blast during his golf lesson, where he learned new techniques and finally found a sport he loved. Overall, we’re thrilled about Ryan’s clear instructions and fun sessions.

Pros

  • Focuses on teaching golfers with disabilities
  • Specialises in juniors and women
  • Budget-friendly lessons
  • Available in several locations

Cons

  • Certain locations have limited availability

Absolute bargain

“Rudy coaches my 6 year old son every sat in a group session at Heaton park. £6 for 1 hour with food and drink included. Absolute bargain! Rudy makes the sessions fun & engaging. We’re booked in to start private sessions with him too. Looking forward to improving my own game as well as my sons under Rudy’s guidance.”

Phil ODonnell, Google Review

RR is superb

“RR is superb. His knowledge, patience and adaptability is second to none. He has taught me, my mrs and 2 of our girls. He will recommend what will help, but not be pushy at all! Very approachable and professional. 5/5. Can not recommend enough!”
