Ad Hoc, a relatively new addition to Manchester’s wine industry, launched in late 2021 and has been gleefully drenching locals and tourists in grape juice ever since.

Their store is located on Edge Street and we love that it provides a tranquil escape from the street party-style trestle table sitting outside.

Customers can drop in for a couple of bottles to take home or try out one of their rotating (very great) wines by the glass.

In addition, their assortment includes natural and biodynamic wines, as well as more traditional bottles.

We’re further impressed that you can get some recommendations and advice from their in-house wine specialists.

Moreover, other alcohol enthusiasts will be glad to discover that they have an interesting selection of beers and spirits, many of which can be ordered online for delivery or pickup.

Despite all of these great things about them, we can’t help but mention some downsides to them.

According to our surveys, most clients claim that their staff can sometimes be rude. We think this can be a big con when dining with them.

Furthermore, we noted that their wine selections are a bit pricier than other stores. We think this is because of their upscale ambiance.

That said, we still think they’re a great option to get your wine fix when you don’t have the time to go personally to their store.

The Beeswing, a bustling centre for dining and drinking, is located in the centre of Manchester.

This independent bar, wine shop, and restaurant came from Joe Maddock, the former manager of Pinchjo’s Tapas Pub in West Didsbury, and Anna Tutton, who formerly managed the famed vin-yard wine bar in Hatch.

The Beeswing’s curated assortment reflects Anna and Joe’s love of wine.

Impressively, their expert staff is always there to help customers discover the ideal beverage, whether it be for consumption at the bar or to take home.

In addition, their dishes are deliberately matched with a wine from the collection. We think this factor can ensure a memorable dining experience for customers.

Another thing we love about them is the sun-drenched patio of the Beeswing offers beautiful views of the Kampus gardens, offering a tranquil respite from the city’s hustle and bustle.

We think it’s the ideal place for after-work drinks, supper with friends, or weekend catch-ups because of the inviting couches that allow people to unwind.

The Beeswing is readily reachable from everywhere in the city and is only a four-minute walk from Piccadilly train station.

All things considered, we do have to mention that there are still some downsides to them – one of which is the limited seating.

Based on our surveys, it can be difficult to score a table with them if you don’t have any reservations beforehand. Luckily, they accept online reservations through their website.

Additionally, we also found that they have smaller portions compared to other restaurants in the area.

But what kept us positive about them was the rave reviews about the quality of their food. So if you’re in the mood to just sit back and relax, they are still an amazing choice for intimate gatherings centred on the dishes.

Blossom Street Social is one of the city’s most well-known places for wine. The establishment is a protege of their prior bar called Swirl.

Furthermore, Since Blossom Street Social in Ancoats is owned by the same team who created Swirl, it is only natural that it would appear on our list of the top wine stores in Manchester.

Most seasoned wine lovers pick this as their go-to place for anything related to wine and dining, and that’s the main thing we like about them.

We noted that their wide range of wine choices is quite impressive. Their collections can range from pricey selections to more affordable options that are perfect for a weekday nightcap.

It also serves as a wine bar with a neighbourhood focus and a continuous stream of music and art events.

We love that they have a lot of choices where customers can sample a few drinks and take in the laid-back atmosphere in Manchester City.

However, we think that their ambiance is geared more towards lively groups that want to enjoy drinking the night away.

That said, they’re perfect for a vibrant night out with friends with live music and great wine choices.  

For this reason, we believe that it brings nothing less than a place that has great upbeat ambiance and exceptional wine choices.

Enjoy sipping wine in a place that appears to be a high-end tech or clothing retailer? You might like Kerb’s minimalist, white-on-white design and futuristic-looking curved wine racks.

This ultra-modern, achingly cool natural wine bar is located on Henry Street, close to Cutting Room Square in Ancoats. They even have their own Dayglo Natty wine!

Their stone bar, which serves wines by the bottle and a limited range of beers on tap, is the focal point of the minimalist, curved space.

Furthermore, their stock varies with the seasons. So, we think it’s worth making several trips to see what’s new.

In addition, customers need not be shy about asking for recommendations either. Both newcomers and wine connoisseurs are welcome in their space. 

What’s more, they have regular informal tastings every Thursday for numerous specialty party nights centred on a certain variety of wines —think Beaujolais, or Txakoli, as well as the occasional art exhibits.

Another thing we love about them is their staff who are always eager to impart their knowledge. Although, we must mention that they have limited seating available, and given their shop’s setup, reserving a seat can be difficult. 

With this in mind, we believe that with everything Kerb has to offer, they’re the perfect place to catch up with friends and family over some excellent wine.

Provence is a wine bar and coffee house in Spinningfields that serves wine, coffee, all-day small dishes, and boards.

This particular establishment prides itself on giving wine recommendations by occasion, rather than a specific flavour or area. We think this is perfect for those who are just starting out in their wine knowledge.

Moreover, Provence offers a full cuisine from the counter to late-night cheese, charcuterie, and vegetable grazing boards. For us, this makes them perfect for after-work drinks, date nights, or simply catching up with friends.

As for their events, the ‘wine jukebox,’ which hosts rotating wines that are generally only sold by the bottle, is a prominent feature of the club.

In addition, customers can also avail top-up cards that allow guests to try tasters or fill up a glass of their more expensive choices.

Their Enomatic machine includes some of the most pricey wines you’ll find in one—think Louis Latour Pinot at roughly 50 quid per glass—in addition to a few more affordable but unique surprises.

Aside from meal reservations, Provence provides bespoke group experiences such as ‘wine-oke’ (wine and karaoke), bottomless breakfast, tastings, and flexible private-hire alternatives.

We are a bit iffy about their pricing, though. Having all of these premium products on their roster, we have to admit that their prices are pretty steep as compared to other shops.

Furthermore, since the establishment hosts events on a weekly basis, the place can get crowded pretty fast.

We suggest reserving a time slot with them outside of their scheduled event hours if you’re looking for a more intimate setup.

Even so, for what they offer, we think that they’re a solid choice for beginning wine enthusiasts who want to expand their knowledge and experience with wines.
