Pros
- Wide range of choices
- Offers gluten-free options
- Online reservations are available
Cons
- Other items on the menu are not as good
- Long waiting time to be seated
Red’s True Barbecue is one of Manchester’s most popular barbecue places. They’re well-known for being a rustic canteen serving slow-cooked beef with house-made rubs and spices.
They’ve made it to our list for two main reasons.
First, their excellent quality meat options and sauce selections are among the best in the area.
Their meats range from your usual pork, beef and chicken to cheese and jalapeno sausages and burnt ends.
We’re impressed that their sauce offerings match these too. They have seven homemade sauces, all made to complement their menu.
We love that you can mix and match their sauces according to your liking too.
In addition, their drink menu is also impressive. They offer beers, cocktails, and even non-alcoholic drinks for those who want to avoid a buzz while dining.
Second, their prices are also affordable. Their smoked sticky half chicken costs around £12, which is enough for two to three people. Also, their sauces are just £1 per 2oz serving.
Moreover, big groups will be happy to know that they offer a “pit tray”, a hefty serving of their 200g smoked pork belly, chopped pork, and sausages. We love that all these are for £17.
Also, vegetarians and coeliacs will be glad to know they offer vegetarian and gluten-free options.
We’re a bit iffy about some customer feedback regarding their wait time. From what we’ve seen, it can range from 30 minutes to even two hours, especially during peak seasons.
However, one customer we’ve talked to claimed that even though their wait time took an hour, their barbecue servings were worth the wait.
Ultimately, we still recommend Red’s True Barbecue if you’re willing to go through their wait time and have the chance to book in advance.

Pros
- Great customer service
- Wide array of drink options
Cons
- Expensive than other options
- Barbecue choices only serve big groups
If you’re on the hunt for a place that serves barbecue and drinks, Quarter House Beer & BBQ might be the place for you.
They’re a bar located in Manchester’s Bohemian Northern Quarter. We love that they are reasonably near to other bars around Deansgate.
Additionally, they are open seven days a week, up until the wee hours of the morning, which is perfect for those who want to spend a night out with a big group.
Their place also has one of the largest sun terraces in the area. We’re impressed by this because it adds to the overall ambience of their venue.
Furthermore, because they have a bar of their own, they have an extensive list of beverages that are perfect for your meal.
On the topic of their meat quality, they do all their smoking in-house over wood, charcoal and live fire. Their smokehouse trays range from £17 for a half rack of ribs to £20 for their kimchi salt and pepper pork belly.
A minor drawback is that they only serve big groups for barbecue options. This might be a deal breaker for those who have four and below people.
Furthermore, they don’t have alternatives for vegetarian and gluten-free options. We think this is something to keep in mind when choosing to dine with them.
Despite these, most of the customers we’ve talked to praised them for their excellent customer service. Their staff are always friendly and attentive.
One of their customers also commended their ambience. Their al fresco style dining is a big plus because food smells from smoky grills don’t get cooped up within the area.
That said, their dining area is in demand during the spring and summer months. This is also something to consider in advance because it can get pretty crowded during these times.
Ultimately, we think Quarter House Beer & BBQ is an excellent option in for large groups looking for a barbecue feast in Manchester.

Pros
- Halal selection and vegetarian options available
- Children under nine years old eat for free
- Offers happy hour rates for drinks
Cons
- Records of poor customer service
- Meat quality not as good as others
Churrascarias are classic Brazilian steakhouses that are well-known across all South American countries. Bem Brasil delivers just that.
We love that they offer a buffet style of dining because there is little to no wait time between orders. We also think this is a good choice for large groups with their own preferences.
In addition, their Brazilian cuisines are worth the try. If you’re an adventurous foodie, you’ll be glad to know that they offer more than your usual barbecue options.
As for their prices, their rodizio lunch rates will cost you £20 on weekdays and £25 on weekends, while the vegetarian package is £15 to £25. We think this makes them quite affordable.
We’re just a bit disappointed at their meat quality. The way we see it, a buffet-style set-up can compromise the food quality because it’s mass-produced.
That said, many customers are still impressed by their range of selections and drink options. One customer we spoke with claimed that their food quality is still impressive, given our reservations about it.
Another thing we’re iffy about is the records of poor customer service. From our surveys, there were instances where the staff weren’t attentive and came off as unapproachable.
Nonetheless, we think Bem Brasil is still a great choice for what they offer if you’re looking for a self-service barbecue place that is also affordable.

Pros
- Wide range of selections
- Affordable
- Vegetarian-friendly
Cons
- Restaurant ambience is not as good as other options
- Records of language barriers with their staff
The rising popularity of Korean-style barbecue has definitely hit Manchester, and Koreana is a perfect candidate for this. They have a busy yet cosy ambience—a typical scene with Asian restaurants.
What sets Koreana apart from other Asian barbecue options in the area is its authenticity regarding their food. We’re impressed that they take great care when preparing their meats and sides.
That said, with Korean barbecue setups, there are only a few sauce options. This means their food taste highly depends on their marinade and meat quality.
We’re also impressed by their customer reviews. Most, if not all, have praised their meat and sides selection for how delicious and affordable they are.
As for their prices, their large sharing meals cost around £30 to £40, which is suitable for four to five people. Their barbecue single-serve sides average £3 to £5 depending on what you’ll get.
We think this is affordable, especially with how filling Korean barbecues are.
Furthermore, we love that their restaurant is well-maintained. This is a big plus for us since barbecue restaurants usually handle raw meats and are more prone to food safety hazards.
Based on our surveys, a downside to them would be the language barrier with some servers. This is something to keep in mind when choosing them.
What keeps us positive about this is that the staff are always attentive and accommodating. The menus also come in Korean and Chinese versions to help with this issue.
Overall, we still recommend them. They are an excellent choice for those who want an Asian twist to their barbecue experience.

Pros
- Authentic Mediterranean dishes
- Affordable
- Vegan, Halal, Gluten Free options available
Cons
- No big group accommodations
- Small serving sizes
Mediterranean cuisine is made up of grilled, barbecued and smoked foods. Including an array of herbs and spices to amp up the flavours of their dishes.
Sultanahmet Grill takes pride in having the most authentic Mediterranean dishes available in Manchester.
They’ve been in the industry since 1920, and we’re genuinely impressed at their long history of service.
Their menu consists of starters, mains, oven-baked dishes, and even Turkish desserts. They also have vegan, halal and gluten-free options. We have to give it to them in terms of selections.
In addition, from our surveys, many of their customers love customer service. They have a good reputation for having warm and welcoming staff that are always attentive and accommodating.
We must note that Mediterranean dishes are known for having small portions, and Sultanahmet Grill reflects this. From what we’ve seen, their mixed grill platter that is good for three to four people costs £55.
In our opinion, this is pretty reasonable. However, those looking for bigger servings might want to consider a different option.
Another thing we didn’t like was the limited space, which might be an issue for those in big groups.
Regardless, if you’re in the mood for Mediterranean grilled cuisine, we think Sultanahmet Grill is an excellent choice for its authenticity and food quality.
