Top 5 Pottery Classes in Manchester to Unleash Your Inner Artist!
Manchester is a clay haven where your inner artist can proudly declare, “I did it my way!” From beginner blobs to masterful mugs, this city offers pottery classes for everyone.
I remember my first pottery class—my mug ended up looking more like a lopsided ashtray, but I cherished it like a Michelangelo masterpiece.
And then there was the time I accidentally turned a bowl into a modern art piece… or at least, that’s what I told my friends during one of our group activities.
So, let’s explore the best spots to spin the wheel and shape your creativity—because in the world of pottery, the only limit is your kiln-agination!

7 Limes Pottery is a welcoming studio with beginner-friendly classes and a relaxed, spacious ambience.
We found their curriculum perfect for both newbies and experienced potters, covering everything from hand-building to wheel throwing. This wide range of techniques helps students develop a comprehensive skill set.
We loved the rich and varied classes, which teach fundamental pottery techniques, glaze application, and finishing touches.
Additionally, the instructors provide clear, step-by-step guidance, making complex processes easy for beginners and offering depth for advanced students.
The well-structured classes balance instruction with hands-on practice. Sessions start with a demonstration, followed by plenty of time for students to work on their projects with individual guidance.
Pricing is reasonable, considering the quality of instruction and facilities. The small class sizes and personalised attention make the cost worth it.
On the downside, the strict cancellation policy can be a drawback for some. Nonetheless, we’re big fans of 7 Limes Pottery for its well-rounded curriculum and supportive atmosphere.
Pros
- Beginner-friendly classes available
- Spacious and relaxed ambience
- Excellent customer service
Cons
- Strict cancellation fees

Community Clay Studio Manchester CIC is a community-focused haven for pottery enthusiasts, known for its welcoming atmosphere, solid curriculum, and ample space for creativity.
One standout feature is their curriculum, which caters to all skill levels—from beginners to advanced potters. They cover everything from wheel throwing and hand-building to glazing and firing, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience.
Pricing is reasonable, considering the quality of instruction and facilities. Students receive personalised attention and a comprehensive curriculum, accommodating both hobbyists and serious potters alike.
Feedback we received from students highlights the studio’s supportive environment and a strong sense of community, making sessions fun and engaging.
One area we’re concerned with is their communication channels, primarily through emails, which may not be the most convenient for all. During our interaction, it took them three business days to respond, which could be improved.
Despite this, Community Clay Studio Manchester CIC remains an excellent choice, particularly for beginners looking to dive into pottery with a supportive community and solid educational offerings.
Pros
- Great community
- Spacious studio
- Highly raved instructors
Cons
- No phone number available for inquiries
- Response time could be better

Lemon Studio rocks with its wide range of classes, happy students, and easy-to-access course details online and this is why we decided to check them out.
When we first found Lemon Studio, our team was impressed by their diverse class offerings—they cover everything from beginner basics to advanced techniques.
Furthermore, their multiple class offerings will let students learn at their own pace, which is convenient in our opinion.
The only catch is that they’re open only Wednesday through Friday, so scheduling can be a bit tricky. And watch out for their strict cancellation policy—it’s something to plan around.
But once there, we can definitely say that it’s great. The studio is clean, well-organised, and fully equipped for pottery making.
Additionally, prices are fair considering the amazing classes that they offer. However, it’s worth mentioning that they have strict cancellation policies that are non-refundable.
Nevertheless, students rave about Lemon Studio for good reason—the teaching is top-notch, and the environment is incredibly supportive.
Pros
- Good track records from previous students
- Wide range of classes offered
- Course information is available on their website
Cons
- Strict cancellation policies
- Limited opening times
Wonderful time experiencing a taster session

The Lemon Studio is a beautiful space to create
“I have a very high pressured job and I was looking for a creative outlet. I am so happy to have found The Lemon Studio, and grateful to spend time with the lovely and talented Jeni. She is a fantastic teacher and makes the whole experience fun and welcoming. She has even inspired me to build my own home pottery studio, and has been so generous with her advice to allow me to do so.
The Lemon Studio is a beautiful space to create, in a stunning setting at Dunham Massey. I would highly recommend you give Jeni’s classes a go – there is definitely something for everyone.”

We decided to check out 7 Spot Pottery because they’re known for their structured classes and knowledgeable instructors.
At 7 Spot Pottery, we found they cover everything from the basics to advanced techniques, which is awesome for both newbies and seasoned potters alike.
One thing to note is their studio space can get a bit cramped during busy times or bigger classes. We think this might be a deal breaker for those who like their personal space.
Now, their classes and facilities are top-notch, but we have to admit, they’re a bit pricier compared to other pottery places. Still, lots of folks that we’ve talked to say it’s worth it.
Additionally, they’ve got all the gear needed for pottery—from wheels to kilns and glazing stuff. It’s pretty sweet having everything right there to make pottery magic happen.
Overall, despite the snug space and higher prices, 7 Spot Pottery gets a thumbs-up from our colleagues.
Pros
- Great class structure
- Good track record
- Knowledgeable instructors
Cons
- Small spaces
- Higher prices compared to other classes

We’ve heard great things about New Dawn Pottery, which is why some of our colleagues decided to book a class with them.
Right off the bat, we can say that they’re a fantastic place for pottery lovers, thanks to their great track record, spacious work areas, and super knowledgeable instructors.
From our experience, the classes are a lot of fun and informative, focusing on both practical skills and creative exploration. In our opinion, this makes the overall learning experience better!
Additionally, we’re pleased to find that their instructors here are quite experienced and know their stuff when it comes to pottery. Plus, they’re awesome at imparting knowledge, so students get top-notch instruction and lots of helpful tips.
The studio itself impressed us! It’s clean, well-maintained, and has all the tools and materials needed.
Plus, the spacious layout means students can work comfortably and chat with other people while you create.
We’re just a bit iffy that they can be a bit slow in responding to email inquiries. Despite this, the overall experience, from the quality instruction to the welcoming atmosphere, makes it well worth it.
Pros
- Excellent track records
- Spacious working spaces
- Knowledgeable instructors
Cons
- Quality of ceramic products sold could be better
- Responsiveness could be better
Genuinely one of the best experiences of my life.
“Genuinely one of the best experiences of my life. Filipa’s encouragement, enthusiasm and humour made every week of my 6 week throwing course fun and effective. I feel like I can now call myself a potter (if somewhat of a novice). Couldn’t recommend highly enough – would give it 10 stars if I could.”

Well worth the time and money.
“Had a wonderful time at the taster class, a full 2 hours lead by an amazing teacher! The class is set out perfectly and was really informative, I expected I would struggle to make anything as a newbie and ended up making 4 lovely pieces to take home. Well worth the time and money. Thank you”
